I'm looking to book a mule deer/ pronghorn hunt for the Fall of 2011 in WY.  I would appreciate any recomendations.  Looking for a good hunt at a fair price.  I'm not looking for book animals, just nice representations.  Thanks

I've been told by a number of people to do your own and not pay a guide. So for this year we have made plans, entered the draw, and have obtained access from private land owners. I can't tell you yet how good the hunt will be, but so far it has been a blast planning the hunt. Savings look to be in the $2000.00 to $3000.00 dollar range over what a lot of the outfitters charge for the combo hunt. We decided to do just an Antelope hunt this year which saves about $750.00 to $1500.00 over the outfitter price. We are also planning a 2011 Mule Deer hunt now the same way. Don't know if this is any help or not. Larry

Take the advice of drycreek and do a DIY, especially if it's not until 2011.  You will have plenty of time to do your homework.  The first thing I would suggest is to go back and look through the threads in the Big Game, Mule Deer, Outfitters/Guides and Wyoming Forums for the last two years.  There is a tremendous amount of information on what you need to know and do that is stockpiled right on this BB to get you started in the right direction.

P Bar Cross Outfitters in Campbell County, WY is a good bet. Marion, the owner has been a good friend of mine for years and has been in business for about 30 years. He and his wife run a top notch outfit and Mary is also a great cook. I have guided buffalo hunters for Marion for several years and can tell you personally if you go hungry its your own fault! They have great facilities and staff and will make you feel right at home. I do know they fill up pretty quick for deer and antelope. I haven't seen a catalog in awhile so cant tell you what the prices are. But they're worth checking out.

We ended up saving around $800.00 over the outfitter prices and that was after paying an access fee to hunt private land. We are already planning our 2011 hunt which was going to Mule Deer only but now have kicked in Antelope again because it is such a fun hunt.

M0 Kane. I had the pleasure of hunting with Ray Daniels in 2008 of Sweetwater Hunts out of Casper. Ray put us on game every day, was reasonable for the combo, and he and his staffer were a pleasure with whom to spend time. Ray flies predator control for the State Fish and Game, flies pipeline loss control for several oil service companies and was a copter pilot in the service, Ray knows where the game is heading and holing up on the 25,000 plus acres to which he has the limited access.

Mo Kane,
I'm living in WI now and just took 2 buddies out for antelope this last year. All did well with one close to 16". I'm from Wyoming and hunted there my entire life. We normally hunt area 57, but drawing has been a problem. We hunted 47 last year and had a great time on do it yourself. If your interested I'm willing to give you camping and hunting advise for the area. Good luck to you. Matt

Mo Kane,
I live in north central Wyoming and hunt goats up here every year. What part of Wyoming do you want to hunt? My advice is to save the money and DIY, but a guide will ensure you have food, entertainment, etc. if that is more what you're in to. If you are a hard core hunter that wants no frills, then look at DIY as you can save a lot of money and the antelope is definitely not the hardest animal in this state to hunt.
I would offer to take you myself, but I'm already taking some guys out this fall that are swapping hunts.

Give me a shout at kmessamer@yahoo.com if you have any specific questions.

Well , I haven't been on this forum in quite a while. I did book a mule deer/pronghorn hunt for the Fall of 2011. We drove out from central NY, and did some sight seeing on the way. The hunt was FANTASTIC ! The two of us tagged out in two days. We took some good animals, and picked off a couple of prairie dogs afterwards also. The people of Wyoming were friendly, the food was excellent, the weather was perfect, and we took some nice animals. I would do it again in a heart beat. Looking to rebook for 2013 if I can get my finances in order.

JS Outfitters was the outfitter.  Great bunch of people, tons af animals and lots of laughs.  Jon Ball runs the operation near Buffalo, Wyoming.  You can check out their web site at Jonsoutdoors.com.  You can call or e-mail him.  Tell him "The Gadget Man" from NY sent you.  I had him pencil us in for 2013 already.  My animals are on the Nosler facebook page if you scan the post on there.  I would not hesitate to send anyone to hunt with them, it was a fantastic time.

We booked again for October 2013 with the same outfitter.  I can't wait to get back out there again !  My animals were featured in the Sept 2012 issue of the North American Hunter magazine, entitled " A Year For The Books ".  I also have a 4 page photo spread in the latest issue of Hunting Illustrated ( 2012 Mule deer Issue ), that showcases a few of the 1300 pictures I took on my trip to Wyoming last Fall.
