So I have been hunting in Hampshire Co for 14yrs now. I have taken several deer, a lot of doe, 3 bucks. The biggest buck I have seen in Hampshire co was an 8pt. I generally hunt for meat not trophys but I'd like one good set of horns on the wall. So where are the big boys in WV?

If you want a chance at some f the biggest racks in WV, take up your bow and head for the four bow only counties in the southern part of the state. I am originally from Wayne County, and I have seen a lot of nice bucks come from the bow only areas.

I have to agree with Hunteredteacher on that one. But, to get a big rack buck you need to get off the beaten path. My brother in law several years ago killed a HUGE 8 pointer. The bases were thick, so thick that one shot he took at it with his 30-30 actually shot thru the antler and it didn't break!! It has a prefect hole right thru the antler with a little busted out on the back side, but the antler is still solid. This buck was taken in Greenbrier County. Fayette County is known to have some real nice bucks as well, but these are bucks that are not normally seen by most. You have to get where they are.

Good luck to you this season.

I am also in Ridgeley. If you drive Knobley Road between Rt 956 and Fountain you can see some REAL nice bucks, but those properties are virtually impossible to gain access to. That's the reason those racks have got so big I guess.

I'm in North Carolina now, but from W.Va. and hunt there during Rifle and muzzle loader seasons. Actually lost a nice one 8pt. (blood trail) last week watched him chase 3 does for half hour. Watched a small 4pt. run a doe and mount her. Rut seemed to be in full swing in that area. Will continue the search just before muzzle loader season starts. I hunt the Green Bank area of Pocahontas County and have encountered many nice big racked bucks in the Buffalo Mt. , Ramshorn and Galpher Run areas. Usually trek back 1-2 miles. Tough walk in and tougher drag out. Very seldom see another hunter. Not many people willing to walk back that far. No 4-wheelers allowed, national forrest.
Have also seen very nice bucks taken from the Cheat mountain area of Randolph county.
Good luck too all !

Well I took another doe this season so far. Good size but not the rack I am looking for. I saw a nice 6pt but couldnt get a shot. Saw a 4pt and another 4pt that someone had on the back of his truck. Not many bigger bucks taken in Hampshire Co this year. A buddy of mine took a nice 8pt last week. What have you guys gotten or seen?

Hampshire Co. 11 Point shot on Turkey Day. Had been bedding less than 75 yards from the farm road that EVERYONE drives and has been for the past 3 years. Just had to figure out how to outsmart him and get him to go the way I wanted him too, so my brother could get a shot

tate, if you're on old furnace rd., have you seen any of the usual nice racks walking around the road on the ABL property?  I saw several nice racks down Knobley Rd, but as usual, they are on private ground with no chance of getting hunting rights. At least I can look at them and get some nice photos

I have had good luck and seen some deer in Ritchie County around Cisco and MacFarlan area. Ive taken 130" and seen some big 140" plus. I live in Ohio but own property and I'm on a lease in WV. Ohio buck's of course are alot bigger but I feel a 130" is decent size in Wv
