Yup, it's me. I was just on http://wvsportsman.net/smf/index.php
checking out the forums. We finally got some needed rain but not enough to satisfy the super low levels in the ponds.

Otherwise, just trugging along getting fire wood in for the winter.

I'm a Life Member, live in Mineral County. I hunt some in Mineral, Hampshire counties. Also hunt in Wetzel and Wayne counties.  Hampshire is a good county for grouse. I do almost all my deer hunting in Wetzel county due to the fact that is about the only place I have land to deer hunt on.

DID SOMEBODY SAY "GROUSE"??

Hampshire Co. Lifer here, since '98 I think.

Hunter ed,
Grouse in Hampshire Co.? Really? I haven't found anything notable this Fall, just a very few birds flushed so far and I've been on both private and State land.

Now Maryland has been another story all together.

I haven't found an over abundance of this fine bird, but I've jump a few. The ones I've seen are mostly on State land, but jumped a few on a private hunt club around the Little Capon River Road area. It doesn't take a lot of grouse to keep me happy, just a few a day. I'm not hard to please, just like getting out mostly.

Huntered,

Run any dogs? Or just walk them up? I run Shorthairs, perhaps we could hit some State land together some time. I did finally find some good numbers Friday in the pouring rain and moved 8 birds in 2 hours, but it made for tough work on the dogs and we never did get any good shot opportunities, but then again I really just enjoy watching the dog work for the most part anyway. At any rate, have a good season and enjoy your time outdoors.

I don't have any dogs. I just try to walk over them. I know it takes longer and I figure I miss some birds, but any grouse is better than no grouse.

It would be nice to have a get together for all members and maybe hunt one of the national forest if there isn't a farm we could get.

We have talked on the forum before the change over. I also met you on the ohio camp cooks forum. I ventured there to look at the turkey calls made by Toby Benoit and Brian Warner. That is where I saw the wood work you did that is mainly what we talked about before. You still do any of that?

New life member myself. Been a member of another Hunting club for a few years now. But I have to admit I'm liking more what i see here.
I live in Cabell County, I hunt on our farm here. Lots of pressure in Cabell but the hunt is always more fun then the trophy. Not that I wouldn't love a good trophy buck on the wall!

The Life Member hunt in WV sounds like a good Idea. As too does the member get together.
If its done we should try for a summer meeting. Lets face it, not many of us would want to miss a weekend in the woods.
If I'm not being too forward, maybe meeting in Charleston? Coonskin Park has a large Pavilion area. Or Beckley maybe?

Welcome aboard. I am in Mineral County. Seems like there's not a lot of activity on the WV section of this board. I'm gearing up with trout fishing and listening for those gobblers. I've heard a couple already, but it's sure not steady. It'll come around in a couple of weeks of warm weather though.

My Dad was related to a Joe Bennett that was Sheriff in Barbour County years ago, did you know him? Dad was raised in a couple of Foster homes and his family wasn't too close. I am doing a little geneology work and looking for family leads any place I can.

Did you know Glenn Righman who taught at PB?  I went to college with him. He was a real close friend.

My dad was Harold Bennett, but most people around there knew him as "Mike". His dad was James Claude.

Hey, no problem. It is worth asking any place, anytime. Never know when something will come up that is a good lead. If you fisg Blackwater or the North Fork of the South Branch we may meet. Good hunting and good fishing.

Well no posts here since March 2010, so I guess I will bring this back to life.

Been a member off and on, but renewed or applied for 2 year membership on May 27th, 2011 and then today made the commitment to be a life member today June 21, 2011. I see a few of my members of the WVSportsman.net site on here. They know me mainly by WVHunter, some know me by WVHunter129 and now I am WVHunter1209. I need to get NAHC to merge the WVHunter129 and WVHunter1209 together, but I guess I should just leave well enough alone.

Looking forward to a good 2011 season this year.

Welcome back and congrats on your life member status.  I don't get on here too often, but it's nice to see a new post. What part of WV you from? I'm in the Eastern Panhandle, Mineral County.

I am located in Fayette County, WV.  Lived here all my life and will probably die year, but I hope not anytime soon.  Looking forward to this upcoming archery season!!  Got a new bow, new arrows and new broadheads to start this new season out right!!

I hope to visit here some, but I have the WVSportsman.net website that I created many years ago that I have to keep up with.

Hope to bump into some of you on here so we can share things of what we have come across this season.

Hello, I've been a life member since 2010.  Live in Grant County and hunt on Dolly Sods.  Been hunting all my life, it still makes my heart speed up when I see a nice buck.  I hope that never changes. Good luck to all and God Bless.

It's not as good as it was 20 years ago, but there are still some nice bucks around.  We are having a lot of problems with the coyotes that were released. Once in a while one presents itself for a shot.  I like to bow, rifle and muzzleloader hunt for deer.  I hope to do all three this fall.

Steven Keffer- Life member since 1994. I have hunted deer in Kentucky and Ohio since 1987. Moved to Huntington in 2002 but did not hunt here in ernest until 2007.  The Regs were really confusing and it was easier to drive an hour to KY or OH where I was familar with the regs. Below is a picture of my 1st WV deer 8 point from 2007  7mm Mag and my latest 10 point 2010 Golden Eagle bow.  I was laid off from mid October until after the new year and got a chance to do a lot of bow hunting. This bucks both fell with in a hundred yards of my tree stand  from which I can see my house. I love it here in WV just wish they could simplify their hunting regs.

Steve,  Great deer. What county did that come from. I now live in Minerl COunty, but came here from Wayne County. I've seen a few deer like yours back home, but always out of season. haven't got to go back there to hunt for severa years now. Happy to see you converted yo WV hunting. I agree the regs. can get confusing, but once you get the hang of reading them it'll be easier.

Hunteredteacher: I Live in Cabell county about 1 mile from the Wayne county line. This year turned out to be a bust. No time off for archery season. Missed the first half of opening day for an appointment and it poured the rain on the second day one of  my neighbors killed a nice 10-point a couple hundred yards from our property line on Thursday when I was back to work.

sms064: I think I repled to the wrong person. Anyhow I live in Cabell county 1 mile from Wayne county line . Did not get to spend much time in the woods this year. One of my neighbors killed a nice 10- point a couple hundred yards from our property line on the same ridge where my 2 bucks were killed.

I know what you mean about getting rained out. I hunt in Wetzel County. We had solid rain the first 3 days. It was one of the toughest swesaons we've had in years.

I am from Wayne County, on the Left Fork of Wilson's Creek. About 3 miles from the Beech Fork Piblic Shooting range. I wish I could get back home to hunt some. Seems like hunting has been bettrer there for a while. I now live in mInerakl County, Eastern panhandle. No private land around here I can get permission to hunt and the Public land is over hunted. Hope next season will be better for you.
