Not in a real big hurry as I ahve to get the family set up first. I do hope to ahve some time to hunt or scout some stuff out after we get moved and school starts. thanks for your help. |

I have never hunted there, but I understand from some of my co-workers that there are hunting opportunities available at Ft. Hood. |

thanks guys, there is hunting on the fort for sure. I'm always looking for other places to go. it is hard and almost impossible to hunt on the fort with a rifle unless they are offering guided hunts so I'll be bow hunting on the fort but just looking for a place to hunt with a rifle as well. thanks again. |

BRUSE, Hove you arrived at Fort Hood yet? I can recommend a couple of places locally to go; Shiney Top Ranch, and the Lackey Ranch by Burnett. If you go to the sportsman center there is a flyer for the Lackey Ranch there. You can google Shiney Top for info there. You can also go to the sportsman center on post at 0230 Saturdays toward the end of deer season and talk to Spell about hunting in his guided area, 82A i believe. They were getting a few hogs out there last year. Hope that helps |

You will not ave to go anywhere to hunt Ft. Hood has it all. They have deer, turkey hogs, quail, rabbits, squirrels,Axis and Black Buck (if you are lucky). it is 200sq miles and takes up 2 counties with varying terrain. To go into the Live Fire areas you will need a 4wd vehicle. I Do not like the regulations they have out there and the biologists are bird ;overs so deer hunters lose out. i have not hunted out there for a couple of years, but i have heard they have the quotas all messed up. To hunt with archery you have to qualify on their range. I have killed hogs, turkey, quail, squirrels and rabbits out there, but have never been in the right place at the righttime due to the damn quota system. But there are MEGA Monsters out there I have friends that have take deer all the way up to 31 inches wide. I live in harker heights right off of post. |

MICKEY D I just set up and got a place on post. I've got my licence and achery qualified as well. I noticed most the areas are closed right now. I do plan on going and riding around and scouting some areas but the list is small. Any ideas of where to start. A Guy at the Sportsman center showed me some pics of some big bucks. He is a guide out there. He gave me a few places but once again all closed.lol if you wanna chase some hogs let me. Thanks for the reply. |

Mickey D, I saw the quotas you were talking about today. I can't believe this at all. Each area has a 1 buck quota. That really sucks gonna be hard to be in the right spot at the right time. |

Pictures say it all. Nonof there are mine, but i saw the biggest deer I have ever seen in the field. If these pics did not attach email me a phone number and i can txt them to you quickly. My grand son-in-law has been stationed at Hood for a few months....don't know if he has had chance to check out hunting....PM me if you want to make contact with him.
BTW, I will be flying in to San Antone midday Sunday for a little hunting with my buddy Jay Leyendecker from Laredo (and Botswana where I met him). Gonna do a little Black Buck hunting....probably take a white tail too. |
