I am having a hard time finding 45 ACP LRN in stock. I was wondering if any of you are hand loaders and can help me out? Or if anyone knows of a sporting goods store that actually has them in stock that would be helpful too.
Thanks
-Mark
P.S.
I want to hunt with my 1911 during deer season and we can not use FMJ ammo. 50 rounds would enable me to check zero and leave 20 plus rounds for the season.

Mark, at this time I only load one cartridge, the 7mm RUM. I had just started to get serious about loading when the crash hit. There are several other cartridges I'd love to start to develop, but at this point in time I can't justify the expense.
I'm guessing that you've already checked Superior Shooters Supply, and Midway USA

That was strange... The Midway link wouldn't work in my first post until I made the second post. EDIT: This place is getting screwy... When I posted the above link, the link worked in both posts... When I made this post, the link quit working in the first post You'll have to copy and paste the other link. They've got a 230 GR RN that is that is priced pretty low IMO, but can't honestly vouch about the quality of their bullets. I was told about the site a few days ago by a friend at work. |

-LD,
I forgot about Superior Shooters Supply. I sent them a e-mail.
I have searched, Cabelas, Cheeper than Dirt, Sportsman Guide, Gander Mountain, and Midway. UltraMax is the only company that I have found that has reload LRN available commercially problem is everyone is out of stock til November.
Thanks for the feed back

TGJ,
Thanks for the suggestions. I am going to stay away from +P for now. I got the gun in July and the owners manual explicitly states not to use +P. I may have to use the hollow points even though I would prefer the pass through shot of the solid.

Mark, I just had an Epiphany, back in 06 we were doing the ceramic in the then new St. Marys building down on 1st street in Duluth. We, the tile guys were taking our breaks with the painters. As we got to know each other it turned out that one of the painters hunting camp was less than 15 miles from our home. I installed the ceramic in their new sauna that Fall.
When Tom the painter picked me up I noticed that he was eying up the old go-kart that our grand kids used to ride when they visited. As we talked throughout the day his ears perked up when I mentioned that I reloaded.
As it turned out, a few years before his brother had bought a bunch of reloading equipment at an auction. About $3000.00 dollars worth, in the hopes of getting into reloading. The equipment was being stored in Tom's guest house. Well Tom's brother had gotten involved with meth, and his life fell apart. At the time his brother was in Nevada trying to put his life back together.
Long story short, Tom wanted the equipment out of his guest house, and wanted our go-kart for his then five tear old son, so we struck a deal for the trade.
As it turned out the bulk of the equipment was for reloading shot shells which I gave to a friend at work a couple of years ago.
I kept most of the metallic components, which included some .45 cal bullets. I'll have to do some digging, but will try to let you know what I've got by tomorrow night.

Mark, I've grabbed the house by the ankles a shook it upside down, and haven't found those dang bullets.
Just for clarification, I know that RN stands for Round Nose, so I'm guessing that LRN means Lead Round Nose. Am I guessing right? I couldn't find the designation for LRN in the Midway Catalog, and haven't looked in my loading manuals.

-LD,
Yea LRD = Lead Round Nose. They basically have the same ballistics as FMJ. They might seal a little better in the barrel.

Mark I stoped at that gander store a month or so ago and was informed they no longer carry reloading goodies.Go figure, restocking the loading bench was the only reason I had for going to that Duluth town. Another place you might keep in mind is that L&M store in Virginia, They have started selling guns and rloading stuff and will order if tey don't have what you need. |

Mark, have you ever considered casting your own bullets?
I haven't loaded for handguns yet, but if/when I do I will look into casting bullets.

Not in the near future. I have over spent my recreational budget this year big time. -MD |
