Hey guys....it has been a while since I have been on to check in so I wante to let you know I have not fallen off the face of the earth...I have been very busy starting my own business and tenderly caring and nurturing for a growing new baby that Obama didn't make!

If you are all wondering I started my own catering company called Everyday Occasions Catering, and have had some success with it, but not as mch as I would like. So if you or anyone you know are looking for a caterer, I am your man. I wanted to also let you know that as a caterer I am wanting to work with wild game...let me know if you are interested and I will give any memeber of the NAHC a discount. Just mention that you saw this on the forum.

Thanks,

Chef Martin

Right now it is slow going due to I have a business that is more based on word of mouth, but I hope once people hear about me I will have so many that I will have to turn away bookings...that would be a nice.

HwA, where are you located and how far from your home base are you willing to go?  Also, maybe a way of contacting you other than this forum might help us find you if something comes up on the spur of the moment (the pm feature here has me baffled).

OH, one more thing.  Best of luck to you and that new baby!

Congratulations on your new venture and welcome to the ranks of the self employed.

One of the first things you gotta do is get your name out there. www.yp.com is a good place to start. You can list yourself for free and you'd be surprised how many calls you will get. Start off with the free ad, it's all you may need.

A website is another but they can cost a buttload of money. Try www.linknowmedia.com they do real professional work without it costing you a fortune. Mine ( www.mattlanepainting.com )costs me $29.00 a month and it' a multiple page site. the monthly cost handles the server and any problems that occur.

Facebook is good too.

You need to be flexible with your pricing at first. You have to make money but you have to get your name out there in the first place and sometimes a lower cost to the customer is the best advertisement.

You have an advantage of a profession that allows you to work for someone else and still have your business. Also a good opportunity to learn from them.

Now get out there and start making money.

Yooper,
I am willing to travel where the money is. Home base is in Freeland, MI which is close to the Tri Cities (Midland, Bay City, Saginaw). My phone number is 989-695-2574 if you are wanting to get a hold of me. Also you can email me at: everydayoccasions_catering@yahoo.com
Thank you very much for the encouragement.

Buhs...I hope I do too and I know you have been very supportive all the way out in California...and for that I thank you sir!

MattL-I do have a FB page. It is everyday occasions catering. I have been doing some charity things to get my name out there. I just did a benefit for a friend's family. He got killed and left behind a wife and 4 young girls, so I planned a benefit dinner for about 800 people and it ended up that total head count for the night was almost 3 1/2 times that at 2700 people. So I have my name out there but it doesn't hurt to get it out there more! Thank you for all your words of wisdom into the new adventure of self employed! I greatly appreciate it!
