A few of us are planning a trip out for mule deer. We missed the deadline for controlled hunt tags so will get a regular season one. Where is a good area to look for descent size bucks? I may also come out for elk. What region is a better one for that? This will only be the second time out west for me and the first for the other guys.

Unit 54 cow elk hunt has a low success rate. I've. Hunted it pretty hard the last two years I've been with in 25-50 yards of Elk every day I went out but no Cows all bulls. Your hunt area is pretty small It's all BLM and private ground. If your going to hunt this unit better plan on paying off the farmers. FYI, don't ask the hired hands go to the owner's.
