JJSMITH.... a 223 will be just fine..just curious are you hunting from the ground or helicopter?...It doesnt really matter..the AR223 will work for both...Its just knowing your weapon....youll do fine...The AR223 does more damage than most people know...take from a vet.. it works

up close either will work, over 200yds I would use the 308. But I have only shot 2 in my life. Both were about 200 plus yds. One fell, the other jumped into chest high grass then I used a shotgun with buckshot to finish the job. Not a fun job. good luck and have fun. by the way I used a 30 06.

Just watched a show where they were in Texas hog hunting from a helo. They were using AR's 5.56 with sound supressors and I was shocked, 55 gr FMJ. They were busting a lot of hogs in a day like 400!! WOW!They have a huge problem where they were and it was like herding cattle. They were dropping them like fly's.

Yes sir MR.CBROWN36....i hunt from the ground here in Texas....Many a time...I came across a huge herd. But on the ground,Its. not to our advantage to to take more tha 2..Thats alot of work..gutting,skinning,quartering, (sorry I dont have a walk in cooler) so then I have to have coolers and ice...Either which way..pigs are a problem in Texas..Being as the farmers provide some 25% or more of the food that drives our country...We have to rid ourselves of such vermin. Sombody is going to prove me wrong...so take this as face value only! Ill hunt hog as much as can...its not endangered here..lmao

If using the .223 I would suggest using the 75gr Hornady ammo and with correct bullet placement they will drop where shot. Hogs are near as hard to kill as some make them out ot be with correct placement of your shot.

Stick it in their ear hole.

While growing up we always raised our own hogs and each Fall we killed 2 for the next years pork. A single shot with a .22LR between the eyes or as grandpops suggest in the ear and they drop where they stand. If shooting between the eyes it must be a shot that will hit the forehead flat or I have seen bullets up to a .38 simply glance off and the hog went back to eating. I prefer the in the ear shot especially if you are using the .223 and I checked and Hornady has the 75gr .223 ammo available using a quality bullet which will make for a better and faster kill shot with of course correct shot placement.
