So my inlaws asked for me to kill some hogs on their land. Well I set out bait and got nothing for the past 4 days. So tonight I decided to walk around and see if I could see anything. Well I walked close to where we fish in the creek and decided to try calling a coyote in with my screamin cotton tail. Lo and behold a giant hog runs out well he stops by the water and I take a nervous over excited shot. Looks like I missed then he runs so I take another shot and seems to be another miss. I go over to where he was and see no blood at all so I must have completely missed. (I'm def gonna be zeroing in my gun this week). Well my question is how soon will this guy come back to this routin if at all. This was about at 7pm tonight. Thanks for the help. This was such a rush and can't wait to get back out there and get one.

He won't be back fo a while after being shot at. Try this recipe and put a 5 gallon bucket filled about 3/4 with corn and then our a six pack of the cheapest beer you can buy and put the lid on and leave it for a few days. I then usually pour some of the mixture on the ground and then hang the bucket over what I have poured out and punch a small hole in the bottom of the bucket and then setup in a treestand overlooking the bait. If they are within smelling distance they will come. This is a recipe that has been used for many years here in the state of Georgia and I know some members elsewhere have used it with great success.

so the issue is the part of the land i saw and shot him on i dont have permission to bait on yet. Hopefully i will soon but until then i can only just sit and hope he comes back at the same time or around that time. So you think i totally scared him off for a while? how long do you think?

He MIGHT come back but it'll take quite a while. Definately not the same exact place or conditions. The sound you made with your call must have resembled a pig in distress. That sound will bring them in on a run like thsat. Big Dawg's recipe is the same as mine, it's a proven one. Good luck on trapping them. Problem is they learn real fast what a trap is and to avoid them, especially if someone has killed one of them while IN the trap. Once that happens, they will avoid that type or shapoe of trap from then on. YUP, hogs are THAT smart. Try making the trap look like something else instead of a trap.
