My daughter lives in Dallas and I might be going there next yr. and I would like to do a little hog hunting. Where around the Dallas would be a good inexpensive area to hunt?

I would post this in the Texas forum as well as you might get info from the folks who live there. You can also put an ad in the classified section of the local newspaper there a couple of months before you will be there offering to help any farmer with hogs on their property. Some properties are so overun with hogs that they are becoming unplantable due to the damage the hogs do. At one time property owners would let folks come on their properties and shoot all the hogs they wanted but since some have found they can charge for hunting them it has become a business so you might have to pay a fee to hunt.

Try Google-ing Dos Plumas Ranch. While not fancy, they are relatively inexpensive and really like parent/offspring hunts, They are about 30 miles west of Abeline.

If you are a resident of Texas, then I suggest going to any of the public hunting areas. The Old Sabine Bottom is a good place to go for hogs. Its about an hour and a half from Dallas in Lindale, exit 556 on I-20. Its 5000 acres that backs up to the sabine river and has good hunting...good luck.

This Sabine place sounds like just where hogs love to live and you will not have any problems locating tracks if they are in that area. The biggest problem with hogs is their intelligence in that if they are shot at only a few times during daylight hours most times they will start doing the majority of their feeding and moving at night. We here in Georgia can hunt them at night with certain restrictions. If you are going to be there a few days and baiting is legal then use a 5 gallon bucket with a lid and fill it about 3/4 full of corn and then pour a 6 pack of cheap beer over the corn and put the lid on it and let it sit a day or so and then whe you get setup to hunt pour some on the ground and I then hang the bucket from a limb and every so often i will tip it over and pour alittle more out and if they are in the area they willl come. Just be sure and be as quiet as possible and pay attention to your scent and setup downwind of the bucket. Their eyesight is not as good as a lot of other critters but they makeup for it with great hearing and a great sense of smell. This corn and beer recipe has helped me kill a lot of hogs through the years.

Run an internet search for cheap hog hunts in Texas. There's quite a few listings that show up. Your best bet would be a local rancher/farmer that's having hog problems. Since your daughter lives in the Dallas area, have her get out to some of the rural areas and spend some time at the local feed stores to get to know some of the locals, She'll probably be able to come up with several places to hunt for practically nothing.

The public hunting areas south of Dallas are great places to hog hunt. The permit is $48 and that gets you access to all Texas public hunting areas for a year. There is a time window though on each area so check the TPWD website. I would recommend Richland Creek, Gus Engling, Old Sabine Bottom or Big Lake Bottom. I go every year and I have left without a hog only once. A couple years ago I went to Richland Creek right after a big rain. The place practically turned into a swamp but it was thick with hogs.
