I am trying to arrange a hog hunt for April 2011. Can anyone on the forum recommend a reputable/good guide/outfitter in Florida.? We are Canadian (British Columbia) and are also interested in an alligator hunt and tarpon fishing. Any suggestions would be appreciated. |

For Tarpon---mile marker 79 in Islamarada the Keys--a place called Robbies you can hire a guide who will put you on tarpon. I got three in one afternoon of fishing in early March. Good luck |

Hey, Im from Brevard county in Florida. I live in Tn now for three years, but I know that there are alot of guides down there. Try getting with some of the cattle ranches like, Rollins Ranch, McCarther Ranch, or Lykes bros. They are all around Okachobee. Had friends that cowboyed down that way (MASIVE HAWGS). Some can even get you into the Gator hunting stuff too. If you have never done it it is a blast. Took my cousin from Vermont he had a blast. Both are hunts you will never ever forget. Good luck, hope you find what you are looking for. |

I hunted for hogs at a place called Wingshooters just south of LaBell, south west of Okeechobee in 2007 and had a great time, so I went again in 2009. This time I was not so lucky, to begin with our hunt was postponed twice, (I later learned from my guide that it was because there were some high tippers that decided to stay and hunt longer) when we finally did get our chance to hunt the hogs were so skittish they were almost completely nocturnal, we did manage to get a hog but it was not like my first hunt there. Our guide even commented that the place had went downhill drastically as far as customer service was concerned. If they are on your list I would strongly suggest that you cross them off. (if that is they are still in business) They may have went back to treating all clients the same I honestly don't know. But I wouldn't risk it. Just my two cents. |

I just booked a hunt with FloridaBowhunts for July. I hope it goes well. I'll post my results. Apparently this guy is adamant about NOT shooting rage broadheads at hogs. Says that you might get a kill shot, but they are impossible to track and has lost many animals due to them. He said he'd lend me a couple Phatheads to use. I'll post another topic on this... but now i'm doubting weather the money I spent on these rage broadheads was a loss. |

Floridabowhunts has a pretty good reputation, but as far as his Rage comment, I strongly disagree. Shot many hogs with my Rage tips and found everyone of them. Tarpon fishing in Boca Grande is just starting to get rolling with April and May being the best months to fish for them here in Southwest Florida. I know some good tarpon guides here if you want their numbers. Good luck whereever you go. |

The wife and kids and I are planning on going to somewhere around Venice Florida to visit her family but while I was down there I want to try out some of this legendary hog hunts. I have been hog hunting for a few years now but I just need to know if any public land where maybe I can go set up on a these bad boys when I get done there this summer. I do believe the season is all year round if I'm not mistaken. No need for a guide I got this pretty well down on my myself.
Anyone have any suggestions for the southwest region down there on good hog hunting grounds that are public |

You might try this for some additional information: http://myfwc.com/hunting/by-species/wild-hog/This is taken directly from the site I listed above: "On private property with landowner permission, wild pigs may be hunted year round using rifles, shotguns, crossbows, bows or pistols. There is no size or bag limit, and you may harvest either sex. Also, no hunting license is required. " If you decide to try this route and locate a friendly landowner, would you send me their contact info, please? Email, private message or regular mail would be fine. I'm subscribing to this thread and will check back when I can. Good luck on the hunt and enjoy the family visit. |

Like Mooseman said, hog hunting is year round on PRIVATE PROPERTY, it has it's own season on public land down here. So see if your in-laws know anyone with a couple of acres that will let you hunt. Lots of hogs in the Venice area. I live about 15 minutes south of there. Good luck. |

Hey Todd, This is Chuck Irish aka. "IRISH" in Ft. Myers. I'd love to get into Hog Hunting. I'm a 3 tour Disabled Viet Nam Vet. I can get around, but it is hard to walk a long distance sometimes. I'm 100% service connected, Total & Permanently disabled, so I have quite a bit of free time. I just got back into hunting about 3 yr's ago. Before that I hadn't hunted sense the 1970's in Northern Michigan, where I'm from. The last 3 yr's I've hunted in Ga.. 3 yr's ago with my nephew at Ft. Benning near Columbus. The last 2 yr's I hunted at an outfitter SE. of Macon. Over 2 yr's there, I didn't see a single buck, only a couple of does & some hogs. Killed a doe & hog last year. But, not what I was looking(and lead to believe I would get) there. We loved the hog meat. I had it processed in Naples. Well, any way, I just wanted to touch base with you, and let you know who I am. My home Ph. # is (239)466-9147 if you would like to talk sometime. Take Care, "IRISH" |

I have a thread asking for private-land owners if they would allow hog hunting on their property. I haven't heard from any yet, so I'm not sure if that opportunity still exists. If it does, I'd like to compile a list of land owners willing to allow hog hunting on their property. I don't know, in this economy, if I could afford an outfitter-hunt, but that might be my only option if I can't find a private-land owner to allow hog-hunting access. If anyone knows of a private-land owner willing to allow me, and possibly some friends, access to hog hunt their property, I'd greatly appreciate their contact information. IRISH, "Thank You" for your service. Your service and sacrifice paved the way for others to follow. |

IRISH, checkout Avon Park AFB. You may qualify for a military receration permit? Also this year is the first year the base did not sell out of the public recreation area permits. They also have special hog hunts. The public area is 21,000 acres and joins up with a few other managed areas. |

Thanks for the info. But, where is Avon Park AFB? Another question. How do you find Hogs in an area you haven't been to before? I'm new at this. |

Hey Irish, Try this, http://www.avonparkafr.net/ to get you started. I talked with Ternera the other day. Did you make it over to his place? I'm trying to set up a hunt for me and some of my truck club members for 2012 or 2013. He texted me a picture of a deer he shot a few days ago. He estimates she weighed about 130-lbs. |

Any of you boys ever decide you want to try and hunt hogs the fun way (catch with dogs and hand) let me know, north east Florida south Georgia areas we go more then our wives like and are always up for taking good people and getting them in on there first hog fight. Always up for a hunt swap or just taking someone that's never been and making new friends. Most fun and excitement you can have with your clothes on guaranteed.
