Since this was a long weekend, and ternera had invited us to come help him thin a few does off of his place, Travis and I were happy to hit the road on a quest to help a fellow member with a problem.

Travis was successful, me, not so much!  Friday morning, ternera was showing us the property and the stand locations, when he and Travis spotted a doe up ahead of us on a trail we were driving on.  I never saw this deer, and as I hopped out of the truck and flipped the scope covers up to get a shot, I'm being told to "slap her".  I still haven't seen that deer!  Later that afternoon, our gracious host killed one of the fattest old does I've ever seen.  This old nanny was probably a good 135-150 lbs.  So, the next morning Travis and I get in the stands well before daylight, I saw a jake and two hens along with several big fox squirrels, while at 8:22, Travis caps a very nice yearling doe that was probably between 115-135 lbs.  That afternoon we went to new stands.  Ternera told me that the deer would start moving around 5:00.  Well, I don't sit and look at the watch, so when a doe walks out on a fire line and starts walking straight away from me, I bleated to stop her.  She did stop, but only turned her head.  I judged the distance to be around 180  to 200 yards away, so I tried to shoot her in the head.  I did that because I knew I'd either drop her in her tracks or miss her cleanly.......which I did!   Sunday morning, after throwing my guts up from 2:00 AM, till I headed into the woods, neither one of us saw anything.  Considering that at around 11:30, I was getting sick again, we decided to call our little safari off.  This is a picture of Travis, his doe, and Jake(a very well mannered young lab mix) as we were skinning the deer.

That's pretty cool, it's nice when a win/win happens. I know that as this season has gone, you and Travis wanted to add to the freezer, and T1 got some thinning of his herd

Sorry to here about you getting sick though, I hope yer feeling better.

Badger1, I believe it was a slight case of a bad chili dog from the local Hardee's in ternera's town. Travis and I took a little break on Saturday and went into town for lunch. I had the $5.00 bag lunch and ended up with more than I anticipated!!!!!!!!

I called them(Hardees) ahead and asked them to "fix him up". I just wanted him to leave with a good impression. LOL
Hope to see you next season.
