This is one I shouldn't have killed.  I got in my stand at 3:30 yesterday afternoon, sundown was at 5:20, so I knew I would be settled before any movement.  At 5:55, I hadn't seen anything except for a bunch of rabbits, so I started bleating in an effort to attract a horny Buck.  At about 6:05 I see this deer come bounding into the food plot nearly 200 yards straight down wind of me.  It's hard for me to see it, but I put the cross hairs on the shoulder, and even though I'm freezing and shivering like all hell, I squeezed the trigger and get blinded by the muzzle flash.  After my eyesight cleared up, I get down out of the stand and walk out to where I thought the deer had been.  I almost didn't see it, because of the darkness and the size.  Needless to say it was a lousy shot, but it did the job and dropped it dead in it's tracks; but the damn thing was this little button buck.

I killed one like that last season, it was the second to last day, it was doe season, and I hadn't had a shot all season. I thought it was a doe. It was tender and tastey.

If I could gun hunt I would have more dang deer than I know what to do with? But, that's what all bowhunters say! LOL!! Nice job rt! I'm out to do a tracking job on my own lousy hit? Unfortunately mine didn't drop in it's tracks, but left a decent blood trail.

Yep, the weather hasn't been cooperating.

Sorry, it was the Ruger mod. 77 .308 this time. I was thinking that the picture would show it's the Ruger featherweight model, plus I was so pizzed that it was a button buck I didn't take time to really provide all of the pertinent info.

I guessed I haven't paid enough attention to the rifles in your pics, I guess my focus usually goes too the deer in the pics.

I understand about not wanting to take the button buck, but as has been mentioned, it'll be a good eater, even though there won't be much of it

Well, 3 hours of tracking, still a decent blood trail, then she goes into the swamp across the road and they ain friendly folks! I did sneak in a ways but lost her trail in hands and knees muck! I'm a little too concerned for my safety to go any further. Sucks!

I understand your feelings but it's hard to see those knobs even in the best of conditions. As said before - good eats.

Sorry about your situation GLW. They wouldn't give you permission to go recover it to save it from being wasted? That sux.

Good kill, even if it was a young buck. Specially at 200yrds. It will be very tender. Good job.

Congrats on #4. Not to be ragging, but I have to ask. You get to use a rifle all season, shoot as many bucks as you want, do you also have no set hunting Hrs?
We can hunt 30min. before sunrise - 30 after sunset. Friday evening I had two does come walking past me about 60yds out in wheat field right at 30min past sunset. I was in my ground blind and with the black interior I could just barely see them in my crossbow scope. I didn't chance taking a shot. I couldn't accuratly even gage their distance in the low light.

Life must be sweet in S.C.

Legal hunting hours for deer is one hour prior to sunrise, 'til one hour after sunset. How long I'll sit within that time frame is determined by weather conditions, the moon, and movement. I've had to sit in a stand for as much as 15 or 20 minutes beyond shooting time, because there were just too many eyes still out and about.
