Well, I'm glad to report that the EHD didn't get all the big boys around here. I just checked my trail cam this morning, and found these pics of a nice looking buck. Appears to be a big bodied 8-pointer. Hopefully, I will see him during daylight hours and get a crack at him with my bow.

I didn't see a single deer while hunting this morning though. However, about 8:00, I heard a flock of turkeys putting excitedly, then I saw them flying in all directions. Moments later, I saw why… a big coyote came slinking through the timber from their direction. He came right towards me and passed my stand at about 15 yards. I took a shot with my bow, and the shot looked good. He stumbled hard, ran about 40 yards, stumbled again, then disappeared. When I got ready to leave, I looked where I hit him and where he ran to, but could not find any blood.

Damn good looking buck! After you shot the 'yote, could you smell him? If so, then he probably ended up in a thicket nearby. |

I like those long brow tines on that second one. I'd take both of them out for sure if I had the chance. |

That one looks like a real dandy, Lunkerdog! Hope you can get a shot of him in the daylight (or at least a little closer to the light of the camera) so you can get the full effect of that rack. Better yet a shot of them hanging on your wall... Hopefully you get him before them wolves do!
And I do like those long brow tines, RT4.
I also had several shots of this smaller buck with an odd looking rack that looked like
he was playing peek-a-boo with the camera. There were 24 shots of him in about
five minutes, and most of them were him looking right at the
camera. It was funny. There would be a shot of him like this, then the next one would have just an ear and and antler, then the next one would be his whole face again. Like he was saying "here I am again..."

There were also a couple of neat daylight shots, but I had to crop and resize those, as they are bigger than the 500K minimum. I got one of a couple smaller bucks sparring...
and another where something must have spooked them as I got a photo of two deer jumping and the camera caught them both in mid air.

Slay, that deer has many year to go before he needs to worry too much about the wolves. The caveat being the severity of our Winters. Now if I could only get the damn wolves too leave my dogs alone Looking at the brow tines of the first buck you posted it almost looks like it could be the same buck as mine from a different angle. |

This is the one I'd really like to get. I don't know why it posted twice, after I had to downsize it. |

Well, I went out bowhunting this morning for a few hours. He never presented me with a shot, but Mr. Big (the eight pointer in the first photos) did show up. He came to within about 35 yards of my stand, but managed to keep enough brush between us to keep me from shooting before he turned and walked away. I tried grunting at him a couple of times to get him to turn around. He stopped each time, but then kept walking away. He never acted really spooked, so hopefully I will get another crack at him. Afterwards, I saw that I had another 270 photos on the trail camera. However, I forgot to bring the extra video card to swap, so I left it alone this trip. I'll have to be sure and take it with me next time. |

Went out Saturday morning, and I saw lots of small ones. I had one buton buck inside of 10 yards from my stand for at least 20 minutes. Could of arrowed him a dozen different times, but he wasnt much bigger than my dog. Only deer I saw all morning that was big enough to shoot was a nice sized doe. She came runnning in, stopped for a second, fidgeted around all over the place like she'd drank a gallon of coffee, then ran off again. I tried agaiin in the afternoon at a different stand. I bumped a real nice buck as I was crossing the ditch to get to my stand on the other side, but he was gone before I could even nock an arrow. It was really windy, and the tree and my stand were rocking in the wind. An hour later it started raining. My stand is on the north side of the tree, and the wind was out of the south, so I wasn't getting wet. However, one bolt of lightning, and I didn't waste any time getting down and calling it a day. I didn't like the idea of sitting atop a 15 foot metal ladder stand in a lightning storm. |

Been there done that, RT4! I also got shots of deer at one stand while I was at another, less than a 1/4 mile away and didn't see a thing there. |

I had my cam set at my feeder set on video. Got 125 videos from 11-11 to 11-17. Over half of them were of racoons (8). I did get 4 videos from 2 nights of a big 6 pt., well for a 6pt. he was big, had long main beams. I had sat in that stand 5 of the 7 mornings the cam was there. On one of the AMs I wasn't there I got a couple of videos of a real nice 8 pt. under the feeder. Probably a good thing I wasn't there or I would have had to bight my tounge for having already got my one allowed buck. On one of those mornings I had watched a doe get chased by 2 bucks across a sand bar, 5 min later a spike came out and followed the path that the doe had taken. 5 min. later a 4th. buck came out but he crossed the river to my side so I thought I would practice calling with a can doe bleat. He circled around me to get down wind then came to within 20 yds behind me. This buck had 4 pts on his right beam and a 2" stub on the left. |
