 First, let me explain. I crawled up in a 20 foot ladder stand on a gas pipeline at a creek crossing that is backed up by a big beaver dam at 9:00 this morning. At about 9:05, I heard splashing and grunting coming from some flooded timber DOWNWIND of the stand and directly facing East! This doe comes running out and heads toward the dam, but j-hooks to go across the creek and up the pipeline toward a dirt road and a big clay pit. A buck comes running out of the timber with his head down and grunting like he's the biggest antlered beast in the woods, hits the water and is behind a lot of growth. He j-hooks and is following the doe, so I bleated at him and for a split second I've got his neck and shoulder in an opening, so I fire the trusty T/C Encore .308, the buck drops in his tracks with a huge splash, the doe heads back where she came from and I check my watch and it's 9:07. At 9:10, I'm dragging this " huge " buck out of the beaver pond. |

Aint it great when that happens ! Reminds of an early ML hunt , got to my tree and was sliding my pack off when it was already pull up the gun time . Congrats ! |

Actually, so far this season all three deer were taken with the same gun, I guess it has something to do with the rotation. Another thing is that all three were killed with a single shot to the neck and practically hit in the exact same spot, although the first deer was at about 80-85 yards, the second was slightly over 100 yards, and this one was at about 50 yards. I think the T/C is becoming my new favorite rifle to use, replacing my trusty old standby Ruger. |
