Southern Michigan is having a bad year this year due to Epizootic Hemorrhagic Disease, or EHD.

So far we have around 4000 dead deer reported dying from this disease. The transmission of EHD to deer is via a Culicoides biting fly or midge.

My hunting buddy called me today and told me that he went out fishing and found a really large 9 point dead next to the edge of the river that he was fishing. He was telling me that it had a wide rack with some really tall tines. The kind of deer you dream about when you’re out hunting. Boy, what a waste!!!

Any other states out there having to deal with this kind of problem?

They said that this is a bad year for it because of the hot dry summer that we had.

KDWPT said they had this in Eastern Ks. My son was fishing on a lake close to Little Rock, Ar. and seen a dead buck floating in it a couple weeks ago.
I was a little concerned from my trail pics of skinny doe and a buck with no hair on its upper half from front shoulder clear back to tail.

We have it in PA. this year , the problem we all have is the midges aren't an every year thing like down south . They have built up an immunity to them . Deer only last a week or so after infection , and besides acting out of it , they may foam at the mouth and seek water . First good frost will put an end to these southern invaders , they can't take the cold at all .
