What kind of scent away do you use

I know there are few kinds out there. I always use the one that smells like dirt. But what are some other good ones out there. Considering to try something different. Tell me what kind do you use? |

You can try saving the tarsal glands off your next deer . Put a pin through each and let them dehydrate and put them in a small zip lock . The night before a hunt run some water over them , return them to the bag , and pin them knee high on your pants when going in to hunt . You'll smell like you're just another deer all day . Dry again and they will last till you get a new set . |

In response to MRD, I do not condone ever putting any natural deer scent on your person. This is asking for trouble with a dominate buck. Otherwise, I use Primos Silver XP, and have been sitting on the ground with does walking close enough to stab and they can't smell me...and I am a smoker in the woods. |

You won't be using Primos Silver, anymore! They've dropped it and gone to the new Control Freak stuff! I have always used the silver deodorant, but the new stuff only comes in an antiperspirant/deodorant, and it's that chalky white crap, instead of the old style gel. Wonder why companies have to go and fugg up a good thing???????????? |

I knew a guy put doe in heat on his boot pads had bucks come up sniffing at his screw in steps. Which is great if you want to jump on its back and cut its throat. I don't let any type of lure on my person or under my stand. I put it where I want the deer to be when I shoot it. |

FYI tarsal glands are used for communicating (I'm a deer) for deer and not an attractant like urine scents . If you use a buck in full rut and hunt the rut you have a point .

MRD, I understand they are used for communicating...but you put tarsal glands of a buck on your person, and the dominant buck from the area smells them, you can't tell me that the dominant buck will not want to find you and remove you...it is genetically built into their territoriality. |

and Rt4, they don't make primos silver any more? What a bunch of crap. I haven't looked for it in a while, but it's because my bottle is almost full. I'm trying to find a good scent free antiperspirant/deodorant. |

navy, Primos now has the control freak antiperspirant/deodorant that replaced the silver. Hunter's Specialties and Wildlife Resources also have scent free antiperspirant/deodorant available, and I also believe that Dead Down Wind does also. I have also seen some national brands now available that are scent free and are sold in most drug stores and grocery stores, I haven't tried any of them, since the prices I've seen are actually higher than the hunting brands. |

Don't know where you can find this but a few years back a gal friend gave me a type of mineral rock the size of a base ball that she got at a cosmetic shop . You wet it and rub the under arms to apply . It will not let bacteria grow and of course we all know that's actually where the scent comes from off us . Works good . |

As for attractant scents, I don't use them. Cover scent, I boil down acorns and spray that on everything. |

Wow. That sounds like a great idea to use. If I get me a deer I will def give that a try...I have also read that after washing the clothes with your sent away to put them into a bin and leave it outside so that it does not adsorb the house odors. Thought I would also give that try as well. |

thats pretty smart and not expensive either. Can you over boil it or does it matter how long you let it boil. |

Bring to a boil, simmer 20 minutes. You can use green bark also, from Hickory, Pine, Pine needles, and Walnuts. You can dilute it to a dark amber. |

If you have any carbon-based scent control clothing, you don't want to use scented sprays or cover scents on the clothes. It will absorb them and could possibly not work as effectively for controlling your odors. If I use cover scents, I usually spray a little doe urine or buck urine around my stand. Also use Deer Dander. I keep all my clothes in an air tight bag after airing outside over night. |

One thing I do is about a month before the season starts I fill a plastic tub that has a lid full of leaves. I put all of my hunting cloths in it and don't touch them until opening day, this seems to work pretty well. I also wash my under garmets in scent free detergent.
I always pour some doe urine around my stand, and during the rut I put out doe in estrus scent. |

Funny you would say "scent away". I have always used Hunters Specialties - Scent Away" products. I do not use any of the scented version. I decided a long time ago that a can of something called dirt scent probably doesn't smell like th local dirt. If I want dirt smell there is plenty of local stuff. :-) |

I use three different methods at the same time.
1. Wear a scent suit, hat, jacket,and pant with boots inside pants.
2. Tinks 69 around stand.
3. Apple car freshners in the stand with me. At least one, we are leaving for South Carolina this weekend for a week of deer and pig hunting. The car freshners can be bought in a six pack for about $6.00. On Monday morning I will open one in the stand. When leaving for lunch will put it in a plastic bag. Going out Monday afternoon will re open it and bag it monday afternoon. Tuesday morning will open a new one and repeat process for all week, buy Friday I will have all five open and hanging with me.
Does not matter if we are baiting with apples or not. Have had deer turn downwind of me looking for the apples. The apple car scent works great and is cheap. If you just want a cover scent they make them in Pine.

If you are using apple scented car fresheners, you must be hunting in the up-state region of SC. Down here in the low country, apple scent will run the deer away (I know because I used some apple flavored stuff on a corn pile once and the corn was left to rot in the field). Pine would be a better option in the pine plantation areas down here. |

I hunt in western New York the deer here don't see to be bothered much by scent allthough the more mature bucks have picked up on human scent as a threat here. I use promos scent eliminator when I Do use scent away |

As ILbowhunter mentioned. I recommend hanging your clothes outside to get a natural scent. And spray or hang whatever around your stand. |

Well, another tip for you Joe. Never, ever under any circumstance, let any one from South Carolina hear you refer to the up state or mountain regions of South Carolina as "Northern". That's a major faux pas, and could get you tarred and feathered in certain areas down here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  |
