WE HAD GREG OUT ON HIS 1ST WATERFOWL HUNT. HE WAS ABLE TO LIMIT OUT ON BLUEBILLS AND THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY WAS HIM TAGGING A BANDED MALLARD ON HIS 1ST HUNT. THIS MAKES IT THE 2ND BANDED MALLARD WE GOT IN 3 DAYS. THE BAND WAS SO WORN THE #'S WERE NOT VISIBLE.

I read that Fish and Wildlife can determine the numbers, if you send them the band for a few days.  They have a method to etch the band and see numbers with a special light.

I bagged a mallard 5 years' ago and the numbers were barely visible.  It had been banded 9 years prior!

That is fantastic, a banded bird on his first hunt. I've been hunting birds off and on for 55 yrs and I only have killed 5 banded birds.
