Been trying to locate the infromation on Winchesters' web site and having no luck and thought someone here might help. I was given a 12 ga Super-X Model 1 and was wondering if it is safe to shot steel shot or should i find another type of non lead ammo to hunt ducks with. Thanks for your help |

I think it would depend on the choke, the rule seems to be no more tan modified and I/C may be better. If it is a full choke, hard stuuf like steel will damage the choke so softer shot like bismuth is the choice there. |

You can use steel shot in a full choke, but nothing tighter. I also wouldn't try to use any shot larger than BB through the full choke. For ducks, you don't need any shot larger than #2. Your softer "lead-like" non-toxic shots are much better, but much more expensive. The best "cheap" steel shot I've found and use frequently are Winchester Expert. I use 3" #2-#4 for ducks, modified choke over decoys (although I'll switch to full if they keep flaring too high), and full choke for pond-jumping; 3 or 3.5" BB for geese, usually modified choke. |

It has a modified choke and we will be hunting over decoys. |

You're all set! Good luck to you! Your shot range will be within 25-30 yds, so let the decoys work and sit tight until they cup and commit to land. |

You have the same model as my hunting buddy. You will have no problem with steel. |

I have tried em all. lol. miss equaly well with all of the types of shot and or no matter what type of choke. lol. I would suggest patterning your shot gun with different kinds of ammo, and see what patterns the best for you with that gun, as it is a fixed choke gun I guess. I have learned that a heavier steel shot does a better job on the duck/goose though, but have to shoot up my old shells first. Going to try out a new shotgun this trip to Ark myself. Browning A5. |

I use a Comp-N-Choke full for everything I hunt with my 11-87. I works (I miss with it) equally well with lead #6 for squirrels to 0 buckshot for deer to steel #4 for ducks and steel BB's for snows. I know this is probably unusual, but I'm not gonna "look a gift horse in the mouth"! |
