Have anybody heard of the new 17 Winchester Super Magnum ammno. Will it work in the 17hmr or is a new gun.

Saw pictures of five different rimfire 17's and from looking at them I don't think they will work, too big around and longer, HMR is a 22 mag, totaly new winchester gun and cartridge design, coure I could be wrong.

From what I have seen and read, it is a totally new round for a new chambered rim fire rifle.  And as such will not work in any other rifle.

It is a RIMFIRE, Go to Chuck Hawks and you can get a look side by side 17 HMR, 17 WSM, and .22 MAG.

The new 17 wsm IS NOT the same as 17hmr . 17 WSM is longer and fatter case , with a lot more operating pressure . All new rifles to handle the new round .
Would like to see T/C bring a barrel out for the encore / contender in 17 wsm . The offering from savage looks interesting . Others are said to be introducing a rifle so chamberd in near future.

I have decided that my next rifle is gonna be a new Savage chambered for this new round. A 20 gr bullet at over 3,000 fps and shooting 300-400 yards is something that is gonna expand the number of folks who shoot for sure.

I hope somebody will make an AR for it. It would be great for night predator hunting in those states where that's restricted to rimfires.

Ordered one today,will be a wait from what I hear. My Stevens mach II, and my Savage hmr are great guns. Can't wait.
