i am interested in starting to fox hunt, and was wondering what would be a good 17hmr round that wouldn damage the pelt, or if anyone has had experiance with a 22 wmr or hornet round that didnt damage the pelt.
thanks

All good rounds,.....................if you can shoot them right behind the ear.

Grey fox are only about 3" thick, Red fox perhaps 6" side-to side. I think almost any 17 HMR is going to get full penetration on body shots.
CCI makes a "Gamepoint" 20 Gr Jacketed Soft point that will certainly go all the way through. but perhaps with a smaller hole in the pelt. I have not tested them.

Most if not all major ammo makers now offer great frangible hunting rounds for varmits so be sure and checkout the major brands. As was suggest I would use headshots and using these new rounds it should stay insdie the skull.
