So everybody, what are your favorite small game guns? Airguns, shotguns, rimfire, the works.

Already been said; but a 410 Bore and 22LR O/U rig would be really sweet.

LOL, and he who laughs last laughs hardest!
My go-to small game gun is my Savage Mark II in .22LR loaded with 36-grain Hollowpoint Remington "Golden Bullets", but I'd really like to get my hands on a Henry H001 lever-action .22LR in the near future. I have used a .17HMR for small game (went fox hunting, got bored and started shooting squirrels) but I find that the damage to the meat is a little more than I like with my choice load of the 17-grain Hornady V-MAX. Damage could be lessened significantly by using 20-grain FMJ's, but my .17 is my varmit gun anyway.
Hunt 'em up!

lot of folks pick up a tristar and think that..I won one a few yrs ago...and it's taken a butt load of pheasants..just because it's light weight don't mean it's cheap or cheaply made...solid lock up and very smooth, really nice swing for a light gun and a breeze for those long day hunts...nice wood also...I wouldn't want to shoot a bunch of long range trap loads all day with it though although for my favorite, it's my mod 1100 28ga...good for upland, squirrels and bunnies...although for my favorite squirrel gun is my MKII Ruger with the 10" bull barrel...

Zastava (now Remington Model 5) .22LR and a Savage Mk 2 .22LR(both serious tackdrivers) or a Stoeger 20 Ga coach gun for cottontails. An prewar Stevens 410 single shot and a Marlin 32-20 for squirrels (76 gr lead bullets at 800 fps); 17HMR (H&R Handi-rifle) for jackrabbits. (or whatever handgun happens to be on my hip at the time.)

Too darn many to list them all,but lets see!
I like my 1022international model alot for squirrels!
Then there's my old Ithaca 72 Saddlegun 22LR that I bought when I was 14 !
Then there's the Reminton #3 Rolling Block a friend of dads gave me when I was about 12 !

For rabbits I like my 16 SxS alot,or my old 20 Mossberg,or my Contender with the 45/410 barrel!

For Pheasants and waterfowl I like my Browning 12 o/u,or my Ithaca model 37 12Ga.

For Turkeys I have a Mossberg 835 with a 2x Diamond retical scope,or a 3 1/2" 870 !

For those squirrels that poop and pee all over my deck railing when my wife puts out her bird feeders AGAINST MY WISHES on the deck,I have a RWS Model 350 Magnum in 177 that SMOKES squirrels ot to 40 yards and beyond if I do my part!

For coyotes at night when my local regs require it I use a 17HMR Marlin with 20 grain xtp bullets,or a Marlin 22WRM with Vmax bullets.
When regs alow me to use a centerfire I use my Encore with the 223 rifle barrel,or my Remington 725 in .244 Rem ( 6MM Rem )
I just bought a Rem Model 7 in 223 that I think might become my truck gun due to it's small size, and it might have to put some song dogs to bed!

There are others that I have used from time to time also, but these are my basics!

If am hunting rabbits or quail in thick cover I will take my H & R single shot or 870 with 18 1/2 inch barrel. Both are great light guns for all day walking in thick cover. In fact went today and bagged a rabbit after my dog jumped it. Also because they are short it is easy to shoulder the gun for a quick shot when your in briars or honeysuckles. If I know I will be bird hunting in open fields, (quail, pheasant, chukkars) I prefer my SBE with a 24 in barrel. This gun is simply awesome and great for follow up shots if needed.

I love my bolt action Marlins I have one in both .22 lr and .22 mag. I have tryed a few .22 lr semi-auto rifles but didnt care for them. The bolt actions are more accurate and more reliable.

It's hard tpo go wrong with a quality 22 lr or mag. For more versatility though, a 20 gauge with interchangable chokes or a modified choke if not interchanghable will work for everything from Rabbits and squirrels to deer with slugs or buck shot.

.22 Caliber Crosman Air rifle. It is light, very accurate, and has great knock down power for squirrels, rabbits, racoons
and crows, plus it allows you to hunt private lands and farms that are within city limits, since it is not a firearm .

I just went exotic this year. I'm using a highly modified Benjamin Discovery .22 complete with muzzle brake, custom wood stock, simmons 3-9x35 scope, custom sling, bipod, adjustable dual fual powerplant, and custom 10 round speed loader clip dropping Predator International Polymag pellets into the chamber. This thing is so accurate in my hands I can shoot the head off a match at 25 feet. If Crosman, the makers of the Benjamin line saw this thing, they wouldn't recognize it. I expect this gun will totally exterminate every last groundhog, muskrat, and squirrel I am tasked with getting rid of this year. I intend to try and eat these things this year. I'm a bit iffy on the muskrat, but the rest of these things I'm told are tasty.

I try to change it up depending on the area i am in at the time. If its very wooded with a lot of brush i tend to use a 2 3/4in 6 shot shotgun and if its a more open wooded area with less underbrush and fields i use a ruger 10/22

My "new" favorite small game getter is a Super Comanche pistol in .410/.45lc. Prior to that a 16 ga. single, or .22 revolver depending on the circumstances.

I would defiantly have to say my Air Arms 410ERB in .22cal. It has a 10 round mag shooting those .22 cal. 18gr pellets accurately and with enough power to take up to raccoon sized game. I have taken squirrels and pest birds out to 75 yards, rabbits at 40 and 1 raccoon at 20 and a porcupine at 45. all with one well placed head shot.

For tree rats and bunnies, either my Remington 597 .22, or my Stoeger .20 ga. O/U.  For turtles in my pond, I love my mini-14 because I love to see 'em get blown completely out of the water as they explode and make catfish feed!!!!!!!

Gut, I shoot the big ones in the head, if they're where I can retrieve 'em.

carnaud, I might put a bow on a gift wrapped package every now and then, but that's the only type of bow I touch these days. Years ago, I did shoot a recurve, but never hunted with it. These days, if I had to use a stick and string, I'd go hungry. Parkinson's will do that to you, especially coupled with neurological damage from strokes. Besides, according to another thread you started, you were questioning whether to purchase a .22 or a shotgun, so are we to assume you bought a .22?

WHY hasn't anybody taken redneckwhiteboy to task. I was reading back on some posts and he talks about killing mallards and a goose with a 177 pellet gun. That's a violation of Federal and State Waterfowl laws!!! Either he's a lurker or a friggin moron!!!!! Either way can we as responsible hunters tolerate what in effect amounts to a poacher in our midst?
