A is a good zone but hot also... As for socal hunting I'd say just hunt the zone close to where ever you live. The best hunting is in northern Ca. as the DFG spends more funds up there and very litte to nothing by deer management in socal.

California has Mule deer and Blacktail deer. Costal "A" zone is Blacktail, western side of Sierra is a mix depending on where you hunt, eastern Sierra is Mule deer. The limited draw system makes it tough to get some of the better areas, but they can be worth the wait if you get one and do your homework. Regardless of area, talk to DFG deer biologists for that area and also to Game Wardens, they know what's happening in the areas. Good luck and happy hunting.

I think that might be zone 12 or 17 one would have to check the DFG hunting zones. If so they are draw zones and you would need to have your request in by the end of May as the drawings are early June.

SoCal is tough for several reasons...1. Predators....I've stood places in Angeles National Forest that smell like kitty litter nthe trees are so clawed uo it looks out of place....cats and bears...poor fawn rate all over...that said I've shot a few dandies....I have had my best luck in NorCal....you will have to scout a lot of ground in SoCal to find deer...they are there but not plentiful....

Try the mountains near Ojai......north of Malibu....the other good thing is Cali folks are so PC saying hunting burns their mouth....the woods will be empty....
