no experience with truglo red dot. But usually with optics you get what you pay for. I would get on gunbroker and try to find a used aim point.

I have a Truglow Red Dot Gobbler Stopper on my Beretta Extreme and love it. Its great for turkey hunting.  What are you planning on hunting with it ?

Red dot sights are great for people who don't have eye problems. I have one, but am unable to use mine since it doesn't have any magnification. I need at least 44 or 50 power magnification and according to my eye doctor some people do better with a 32 or 38 power while others may need the higher power. I have since learned that people should get their eyes checked before investing in a sight or scope, so the doctor can determine what is best for the individual.

Sorry to learn of your eye problem RT4. Red Dot scope have only 1 % power and being most turkey shots are under 60 yards its Ok for me. What I like is you can put all your pattern in the neck and head. Many shotguns do not shoot where the bead is aimed at.
My Beretta shoots to the right and I just got feed up with allowing that on quick shots. Now I just put the red or green circle on the neck just where the feathers start and hardly no bb's in the body. They are easy to set up your pattern too

Ron, thats not magnification your talking about, that last number is the size of the objective lens, your eye issues no doubt are related to why you need the higher numbers as its the distance across the objective lens that those numbers represent. The bigger the number the wider the lens, so the more light it lets in and the wider the field of view has, it has nothing to do with magnification though, thats the first numbers. Have you ever tried a Single Point red (or green) dot? They have no objective lens, thats right, you can't even see through them, its just a black background with a dot in there. You use one eye to see the target and the other to see the dot. No batteries either, works like a fiber optic site and the objective end gathers light, then focus' the light into a dot. No magnification, and a fairly big dot though so its pretty much an under 100yd. site. For me at least. You have to be right eye dominant to shoot right handed though, and vice/verse.
Texican, like has pointed out, it depends what your putting it on. I don't like them on rifles personally due to no magnification, some you can add a doubler, or tripler to and get some magnification but, that gets pricey and adds weight. On a handgun though I have had great success, especially with the hologram type. Since the optic quality doesn't become much of an issue when you have no magnification I generally buy "cheep" BSA, and Barska red dots. They have held up fine on my Red Hawk in .44 mag, and Gp100 in 357 mag. as well as the Super Red Hawk in .480 Ruger that I used to have.

Jeff, you're right, and I know better. With my eye problems it is the larger objective that I need first, then couple that with magnification. My red dot is a cheap one (Redhead) just for that reason. I wanted to try one before investing in an expensive model, just to see if it would work. I ended up putting a 2.5x16x50 scope on the gun instead, just so I could see the damn target. I finished the rig with a laser and a flashlight that mounted right onto the scope.

I hear you Ron, I'm in a similar situation as far as I need a "single aperture " site and magnification beyond 50 yds or so. Was your red dot a large diameter model? Iv'e tried the small diameter longer ones (aprox. 20mm x 6" ) and didn't care for them, but the large ones (50mm x 2" ) are way easier for me. How about the type you can't see through ever tried one? Still waiting to hear what Texican wants one for. lol
