i found a couple of trees on a place and got about half of gallon of the fruit that had droped and started rotting and a bunch of seeds i am going to plant the seeds in my yard and get some saplings growing and then plant them in the mountains how long does it take for them to start producing fruit. i want to plant a small group of about 12 to 15 trees to have a place to hunt with my kids and i figure if i can get the trees to grow in a few diferent places then the deer would have something that they like to keep them close to my property. thanks |

MDC has a nursery in Licking where you can order some fine seedling's here in Mo, don't know what state you live in but you may be able to find the same thing in your state, that would beat the heck out of raising you own since they would be at least a couple of feet tall allready. just saying. |

jwynn4, I don't know much about persimons, but I've grown many apples from seed, and they have to go through a cold spell. The best method I've found is to put the seeds in some moist peat moss or light soil in a ziplock bag. (I've also done this in a moist paper towel, so the soil doesn't really matter, but the moisture does.) Refrigerate for about 6 weeks. (Do not freeze!!) When you take it out of the fridge, some seeds will have sprouted. Plant them in soil shoot down (seed pod up). Mulch well, and keep watered for a while until the roots have a chance to develop in the existing soil and they can get their own water from deep enough down. (I usually do them in a pot first until the tree grows, and then I transplant the sapling when its a few inches tall, but never in May, June, July, or August.) Like I said, I don't know about persimons, but maybe someone on this site does. I'd just hate to see you waste all the seeds you have by missing some important step. |

etaylor8, I live in Puxico, Stoddard County Mo, My Last wife was born in Licking, Nickens was her Maiden name, I have been hunting in the National Forest around Evening Shade every year for the past 30+ years and go to Licking and Houston every time we are there, go to houston and waynesville to buy the county permits for Our atv's unlike the rest of the hunters around where we camp, kinda gets one hot under the collar that we are bout the only ones with legal vehicles down there but I paid too much for my machine to take any chances of having it taken away for 15.00 dollars in two counties, Texas and Pulaski County, I never and will not ride it in Phelps as they don't have atv riding there, Ross Bridge is bout 4 miles from where we camp, alas I wont be going down there this year and it will break a 30+ year string but the economy is just too tough right now, maybe next year. Any wild seed gets frozen from Mom nature as far as that goes, the beauty part bout the ones from the nursery is that they are probably 3= years old and should take off real easy. If I was going to do any of the wild trees that is what I'd doo but to each his own. just saying. |

snider, we aren't "close neighbors", but I am familiar with you part of country. Have never stopped there but have traveled through. I agree with you about riding ATVs We have those here that don't care what the requirements are. I guess if everyone was law abiding, then a lot of Enforcement Officers would be out of work.LOL. |

Yep a lot of people fish Duck Creek North of here but with the drought man that 1800 acre main pool is bout 3-4 feet down and all the timber where duck hunting taks place also is DRY as a bone, same with Ming National Refuge, they will have to pump water if they want any Ducks and Geese to rest over here. |
