I have a rossi youth 20 gauge single shot shotgun and was wondering if anyone has ever shot slugs out of it. Will it hurt the gun? Can I still shoot fine shot out of it? I would like to take it where I hunt and go rabbit hunting during deer season. I don't want to walk up on a big buck and only have fine shot. Also I would like to test my shooting skills with slugs.

Thanks,

It'll be fine. Just be aware that the saboted slugs probably won't work very well since your gun has a smoothbore. Use the Foster style slugs instead.

Use the old style Foster slugs which are made for a smoothbore barrel and it will be fine. A sabot will not be accurate as it requires a rifled barrel. Also you will need to know which choke the barrel is before using any slugs.

You will be able to use RIFLED slugs fine however sabots could be dangerous if full choke.

Check with your state regulations. Some states don't allow you to have deer capable shots while small game hunting. In MN you cannot use multiple projectile ammunition while deer hunting. In other words you cannot have buckshot with you.

Good point Mark D, I'd have to double check but I think Pa. has something similar.

Ihave done it and have good placement out to 50m. Past that the size of the gun really limits what I can do. I will say that it kicks like a mule though I used it as my back up gun once my son got too big for it.

Thanks for all the advice, can't wait to get out and target practice with it, and SFC B I doubt I will ever get to big for it. I like it because it is fairly accurate and extremely compact, in fact, I could probably shoot it one handed, I don't think I want to try though.
