I heard that they were raising elk in Asheville, NC, I know thats true, but is it true that they are going to release them in 2014? It seems like perfect habitat to me, and I'm surprised nobodies already released some.

Most states are a little picky about just letting anybody release a large ungulate on their land. I really doubt someone is going to get the green light to do something like that. There are elk in southwest VA that came up from TN, but they haven't really gotten established. VA lets anybody that sees them shoot them in deer season and tag them with a deer tag. Unless the game dept in NC is the one doing the releasing, they will probably adopt the same sort of policy.

I've visited the observation tower outside of Asheville and seen some of them. I don't know if the plans are to release any of them, but had heard rumors of SC possibly trying to reintroduce some in the upper part of the state, not far from the Asheville area. I'm not sure how much truth is in the rumor, though.

Need to reintroduce in NC---KY and TN have....let them roam the mtns along the border with TN......NE GA shud too!!

I think its the game dept, but not sure. It'd be sweet to see an elk in the field!
