The following are sites and forums which at least have a section dedicated to sportsmen with disabilities. Information is shared there about sponsors who may supply adaptive equipment and techniques used to make the woods and the waters more accessible.  Please feel free to pass on this information on to anyone who may benefit.  If you know of another, please add it to the list.

These are all good orgs and I have worked through a couple to get help for some wheeled fellers. The links in the Wheeled Sportsmans page are great as these vendors are more than willing to work with you to design and build what you need to get you back in the woods. One of the most impressing inventions is the wheelchair hydraulic mobile deerstand. Some of the electric wheelchairs can and have been geared for traction and come available in 4 wheel drive. Good stuff and good people result in good things happening.

I'm not quite ready for the wheelchair yet........
But rough terrain is out, I look for flatland areas to hunt, and kind of dread getting a deer if I'm hunting alone. Last deer I had to drag took about 2 hours to go a few hundred yards out of the woods! Lots of stops and rest breaks!
Getting close to giving up hunting, it's work, not fun anymore. Sadly.
I still WANT to go, but I wander less and less every year, just can't roam for miles anymore. Wish I could hunt from a 4 wheeler, but I don't think it is legal in PA. So I travel less and less.

Zermoid---That is what friends are for!  If you want to keep at it you need to start looking around for some people willing to help you through the rough stuff, whether it's getting a deer out of the woods or a number of other things!!!  They are out there if you look hard enough.

could not have said it any better, topgun. was thinking if he was close enough to where i am, then perhaps we could hookup and enjoy Penns woods together, and help one another out with what we enjoy so very much ( this great sport of hunting).. keep the wind in yer face and stay safe out there.

I volunteered as a guide with a really great group of people in January when they had a deer hunt in S. Alabama. There were 107 hunters with various disabilities. we harvested 77 deer, 7 hogs, a coyote and a bobcat in a 2 1/2 day hunt. The entire outing was extremely well organized and there were more volunteers than were needed. You can visit their web site at www.outdoorswithoutlimits.net

Kirk Thomas is the founder and I would really like you to contact him thru their site and chew his ass about making it easier to join. I referred several people to their site but nobody was able to actually sign up by going thru their site. I even referred people who wanted to start a chapter but no luck for them either.

Thanks for the info. This year my wife can't hunt with me because of all her medical problems from a car accident back in 89. She's having way too much trouble with her legs.

The state of Missouri has a handicap licences that you can get that will let you hunt from a car or 4 wheeler and also lets you use a crossbow. You might check with your conservation department and see if they have something like Missouri has.

I have to mention my great State of Georgia being one of the first to offer a number of special regs for disabled hunters. We were to my knowledge the first State to offer disabled hunters the benefit of hunting from a vehicle for at least the last 40 years. Also one of the first to offer crossbow hunting for disabled hunters when other states would not allow it. I work closely with my Congressman and Representative to include ALL those who are disabled when our DNR holds the yearly public meetings for suggestions and ideas for hunting for the disabled. A 100% disabled Vet is issued a Valid For Life hunting/fishing license amongst other things. I hope to live to see the day when all 50 States of our great country offer these and many other things to the disabled whether a Vet or not. Rob you are doing a fantastic job with this and I not only appreciate your efforts but my respect is indescribeable. For those who may not know Rob presented this after a couple three times I failed to get the support to start an org for just the disabled. I know Rob to has not had the support he should have yet has maintained his committment and just keeps plugging along. By the by Rob how goes the filling of the Board positions ? Any positions not yet filled ? I have helped many get back into the fields and woods to hunt once again but am now at a point where I require help myself when hunting. My GOOD friend Quailman still hunts with me knowing he is gonna have to do the majority of the grunt work and I appreciate him immensely and after meeting through this BB we have become the kind of friends that know we each can count on each other to make our hutning happen. Also Tom In Tennersea has said that though he himself not being in the best of physical condition would help me as much as he can and again we first met here on this BB and then in person. With both of these " characters " who have become my 2nd and 3rd Stooges to complete our trio life is good. So remember if you are able bodied PLEASE do what you can to help those who cannot do things themselves. It will come back with rewards many times over.

Have been so busy with the web site for Physically Challenged Sportsmen of America (www.pcsaonline.com) that I forgot to post this NEW web address here.  What is really exciting is that a group of us are very close to forming a nonprofit corporation by the same name.  When that happens TRUST ME, you will want to be a member of this site.  Tell Tony (hunitngvet) that Rob sent you.

See you there,
Rob

Zermoid, it's legal in pa if your doctor will sign off for a hunt from a vehicle permit. The applications are on the game commission website and can be printed directly from there 1. Www.Portal.state.pa.us/portal/server.pt/document/709449/pgc-707-Le_pdf 2. That should include the application and requirements with instruction for you and the physician

Hey TopGun, I'm a 20 yr A/D, 100% service conne connected disabled vet, living in El Paso.  Been here 2 yrs but haven't been out hunting for the lack of a hunting partner.Looking for someone that knows his/her way around, and knows where to hunt that doesn't cost a fortune, and can help drag out critters we shoot.  I've had 3 back surgeries (and need 1 more) so I can't hump the hills like I could in my "light infantry" days.  I'm dieing to huntwith someone in TX that knows or has access to land that wouldn't mind this old soldier joining them.  If you know of anyone please email me @  jrwas7315@aol.com   Thanks  Jim Wasneechak  VFW, Amer Legion,DAV

I do have a question about the disabled hunt opportunities, I am a die hard whitetail hunter. I also have a heart condition from birth. I am 41years young, I have had 6 open heart surgeries. My health is good at the moment, but my disability doesn't allow me to walk great distances, cross creeks, jump ditches then climb a tree. The place that I do get to hunt is somewhat difficult to navigate, but I take my time. Take lots of breaks. This place doesn't hold mature animals so my expectations are kinda low. I would like the opportunity to take a quality animal, funds aren't that great, so my question is, do I meet the definition of a disabled hunter ?
