There are no free Life Memberships and nobody nominates someone for membership.  Currently a Life Membership costs close to $400 and you can pay a lump sum or they will let you pay it off in 12 monthly installments.

You better read that thing real close, because it doesn't say a Free Life Membership.  Or, at least that's what we've heard.  It may sound like that's what it says, but if you read the details carefully, you will get the real info.

Let us know exactly what it does say in detail.  I'm curious to hear it.

Thanks

Longshot---A few other members have come on the BB over the last year with this same story and the ones who went ahead with it started receiving bills for monthly payments to get that "FREE" membership.  It sounds like the Club is using some shady tactics to gain LMs if what these members say is true and all claims are very similar to this one

Well that is not good business ethics, unless they just want more outraged members then they already have.
I think if they stopped looking at the profit margin and started putting a little more back into the club the word of mouth would draw FAR MORE members. JMHO

I can't help but think the people are seeing "free" as it applies to the goodies they get when buying the LM. Not calling anyone out on this, but I do believe they are getting confused due to the way the wording is used.

rt4---That is exactly our point!  Advertising should in no way confuse a perspective buyer of goods or services as to what they are getting for their money.  A number of members have made the same accusation and I wish I could see the wording that is on the paperwork thay are receiving.  For one thing, we all know that nobody is NOMINATED" for anything by any member or employee!!!   My 30+ years in consumer protection dealt a lot with shady advertising, signage, etc.  I smell a rat when I keep reading the same thing over and over from disgruntled members!

Hey Everyone,

I see that there is some confusion regarding the letter we send to members offering a Lifetime Membership to the North American Hunting Club so I wanted to clear up some misconceptions for you. First off nowhere in the letter that we send out does it say that the Lifetime Membership is free. There are a lot of free gifts and benefits which you get as a result of being a member. If you aren’t sure how to access these benefits check out the FAQs to learn more.

The current standard price for a lifetime membership is $369 US. The club will apply a rebate of the dues you have paid as an Annual Member towards the cost. That means if you paid $24 for two years you will only pay $345 for Life Membership. We then divide that into 12 monthly, interest free, installments. The cost of Life Membership is on every letter we send out to members. If any of you have more questions about the Lifetime Membership just click on the FAQs.

Keep your sights lined up,

Thanks Peter!  Maybe if some are seeing free of interest or free gifts they are getting the wrong idea.  I would say that if there is any mention about them being "NOMINATED" for any type of membership that maybe that wording is confusing and might be changed the next time things go to the printer---just a helpful suggestion so you can keep all the customers happy and you get good word of mouth advertising!

So Membership isn't free, but if you pay to become a Member, you get free stuff.  But you can't get the free stuff unless you pay for a Membership....

And people think lawyers use double talk and circular logic.

All I can add is that when I became a life member I was told I would receive free gifts and after I sent in my first installment I received my welcome packaged and there was some real nice things in it including a really nice fillet knife that wasn't even part of the deal. After I paid half of my membership fees I received a nice hunting vest and when I paid my fees in full I received a very nice gun case so as I see it everything thing they told me I would received I have so I am happy and to me this forum is just a real nice bonus

I got that same letter TWICE. (But it didn't mention anything about Free life membership) The first letter got me interested in joining and I did as a regular member. Two months later I decided on my own to upgrade to LM. 1 month after I did that, I got the second letter. It's just something to get you interested in joining.

Dear Web Master,
Thank you for clearing that up but if our dues as a regular member are $1 a month and the longest anyone can live is at most is 120 what is so great about the life time member that it cost an extra $249?

lexior1992, When I became LM, the leather coat(I found one exactly like it, but without the NAHC embroidered logo at Burlington Coat Factory) was worth more than what I paid for the membership($350.00). Couple that with the nice wooden plaque, belt buckle and the gun cleaning mat, and the magazines actually are free!!!!

I got the same thing RT. Actually, I somehow ended up with two jackets. Still have 'em somewhere even though they don't fit. Still have the buckle too, never even used. Not quite sure what happened to the plaque. Wonder if the jackets and buckle would bring anything in a HHH auction....

mwalton, Buckmasters isn't connected to the NAHC in any way. I'm also a LM of Buckmasters and receive both of the mags you named, and also "Gunhunter". Their LM package included a very nice camo jacket with my name embroidered on it, a rifle sling, knife, decal, membership certificate and a vehicle tag. They also have a forum on their site, but normally it doesn't see a lot of action 'til deer season.

Am I missing something in the math?  At a buck a month your payback would be slightly less than 21 years, assuming the cost of membership does not increase during that time.  By my calculations most folks in their teens, twenties, thirties, or forties would surely get the payback even without figuring in the "freebees".

Every once in a while, out of the blue I'll get a BM mag delivered. Not sure why as I'm not a member. $500 for a LM seemed a bit steep, for me anyhow. I wouldn't worry about it mwalton.

Steve, since I had been a 5 year member of BM, my LM was only $300.00. I paid $700.00 for NRA LM, $350.00 for NAHC LM, and $300.00 for BM, I can't afford a LM in DU or the NWTF, and when I did the LM with the NRA and the NAHC, I was working and making some good money.

Buckmaster's is a joke and they were caught signing folks up after calling and being told no. How do I know this ? They did it to me that's how. They were investigated by the Alabama AG's office and told to stop with the unwanted callings and signing folk up after being told no. I do remember some years back when this was happening Jackie whatever his last name is came on here and posted a lengthy reply about how the dept doing it had been doing it without his knowledge and the personnel in that dept had all been replaced. He went on to say it would never happen again and for me it has never happened again. Their dues are way to high IMO ! The do have a great charity for kids and the disabled and sponsor and pay for those selected each year to come and stay and hunt for free. I remember that at one time the picked hunters were totally outfitted with everything needed to include a new rifle. But again that was a good many years ago.

They still have several of those contests, each year. They also have a weekly drawing for prizes and an end of the year drawing for a new Yamaha Rhino 700. I get a call about once per quarter just checking to make sure that my magazines are arriving and to update me on my contest entries' and they usually add some extra entries at the same time. I even have two of their reps who call, just to check in and see how my season is going. We've become telephone buddies!

I belonged to buckmasters for years.  Notice that I said belonged. past tense. Then they started to call me constantly. Wanting me to renew my membership, and offering things to do it.  I did it one time.  For five years.  It was maybe 6 months later.  I started getting calls wanting me to extend for another 5 years. I told not at this time.  I would renew when I was ready.  A week later I got 2 more calls.  The same answer was given to them. The same senario happened about every 3 to 4 weeks.  My wife got transfered to Dallas. So,I told them about the situation.  We were looking for a house. I would contact them when I was ready.  We were living in an rv  park looking for a house.  The calls intensified.  Once or twice a week.  I told them not to call any more. It kept up.  I finally told them to cancel my membership. And, I emailed Jackie Bushman about it.  The calls then started offering thing to not cancel, And to renew.  I let the membership expire. Still more calls.  The calls finally did stop after 6 months went by.  I emailed Jackie another time to say wouldn't ever belong to buckmaters again because of the harrassment.  I didn't get anything backfor an opology sp? from anybody at buckmasters. To bad.  I really did like the mags.

rthomas;  Thats funny.  Really.    But your right.  They did do that.  In an aggravating way.  But, they did recognize I was around. I didn't want to have to go to that.  Going to the A G , or the BBB.  I was being pushed in that direction by them.  It takes a bit for me to do something like that.  Luckily, I didn't  have to.  It's possible that someone else did at the same period of time.

That was probably 6 years or so ago. After about 6 months of me repeatedly telling them to NOT call or write me and them still constantly calling, I'd had enough. H3ll of it was, I even TOLD 'em I was going to gt those two involved if they didn't stop. They didn't, so I did, and then they did... ;-) Haven't heard a peep since.

Back then, a lot of the calls that came from Buckmasters were actually from a magazine subscription service. The calls I get these days from my "phone buddies" are actually from company reps. One in particular that I talk to most often, actually lives in Charleston which is about 75 miles away. We have some common acquaintances in this area.

I get subscription services calling me all of the time about my Playboy subscription, funny thing is that there are at least three different services that call.  I always cut them off by telling them they are liars since my subscription is directly through PEI.  Also get calls claiming to represent the SC Highway Patrol, soliciting donations.  Since I happen to know quite a few patrolmen, I know that they don't solicit donations over the telephone.......I also cut those callers off by calling them liars and SOBs!!!!!!

A lot of calls I got also came from a magazine service.  I was in Tucson at this time.  A call I got from one personshowed that a lot of the people they employ are uneducated.  This girl called Tucson Tukson.  I had to correct her on how to pronounce it.  She said "Oh, Thats how you spell it? Wheres that at?  I was thinking to myself.  Really?

When I first became a member 15 or so years ago.  I understood perfectly what was being said.  A lot of the confusion is coming from some people reading into what is being said.  Not taking it at face value.  I mean.  It only makes perfect sense.  in life.  You don't get anything free unless you put something into it first.  It's like getting raffle tickets.  Hawke  Really? Thats what new lifers are getting now?  All I got was the leather jacket made in China, and a belt buckle with my name, life member on it.  You guys are getting some pretty cool stuff now.
