Beagle, Walker, Plott, Redbone, Bluetick, Redtick, Black and Tan, Goodman, Trig, Feist, Jack Russel, Heinz 57, and any combination(s) of each! Hell, I've even had GSPs, Labs, and Brittanies that would run deer, and have known some German Shepherds, and Boxers that would, also. Overall, I'm partial to Beagle/Walker mix, and Bluetick/Redtick mixes. I prefer to use my Jack Russel as a blood trailing dog, rather than turn him loose with a pack, simply because Russel's are such hyper little dogs.

Just about any breed of dog will run a deer, the secret is finding a good trail dog that can work both a hot and a cold trail in order to jump the deer in the first place. Once the trail dog jumps, usually the pack will follow and run. It also helps to have an old dog that has slowed down a bit for training pups on what they are supposed to do. Usually an old beitch that has had several litters of pups, works best.
