First off the bat, what sort of muzzle loader are you interested in, rifle, shotgun, or pistol? If its rifle, are you wanting to look at traditional or modern, caplock or flintlock, percussion cap or 209 primer, open ignition or closed ignition? If you're planning on using it for hunting, check your state regulations for what is allowed, that may have a bearing on what you purchase.
My personal preference is Thompson Center. I play and hunt with a T/C 50 cal. Hawkin percussion, a T/C 50 cal Omega, a Davide Pedersoli sxs 12ga shotgun, and a T/C 45 cal Patriot pistol. There are others in my collection, but these are the ones I normally go to.
