Since I purchased the farm 10 years ago, it seems the coyote population in the Southeast has exploded as fast as Larry’s belt buckle at an all-you-can-eat China buffet. At first, coyote sightings were a novelty around the farm. We were used to seeing them on Saturday morning cartoons and in Native American folklore, but we really knew nothing about them. Their arrival brought more questions than answers. What effect will these dogs have on the deer herd? How do these adaptive predators fit into the overall land management equation?

From a political perspective, gun control is looked upon as restricting civilian access to firearms. While I'm sure some of you will want to engage in that argument, let me inform you where I stand right now. I believe the current gun control laws are over-restrictive and think the American citizenry needs more firearm freedoms.

It's not a matter of "if" something will go wrong during a spring turkey hunting trip. It's a matter of "when?" or "what?" will go wrong. More often than not, turkey hunting catastrophes will occur with impeccably terrible timing. Some of these events can be prevented, while others are at the mercy of the gobbler gods.

Aside from the usual sleep-deprived hallucinations and mental mania caused by turkey season, I've been on some turkey hunts that were just plain weird. It's time to share stories from three of my favorites. I challenge you to top them; comment below.

Last year, I was fortunate to attend the annual Freedom Group New Products Seminar. It was 3 days packed full of exciting product presentations from the Freedom Group's massive catalog of shooting-industry brands. Two afternoons were spent at the shooting range, where media folks like myself were given open access to shoot a bunch of cool stuff—including suppressed rifles from Advanced Armament Corporation.

We're in the heart of turkey season.
