You’ll see plenty of clever commercials next weekend during the Super Bowl, but I doubt any of them will showcase guns and shooting turkeys like this classic from Mountain Dew.

Imagine more than 61,000 people looking over the wares of more than 1,600 companies from all 50 states and more than 100 countries! All this housed within 630,000 square feet of space. That's almost 120 miles of guns and gear. That's SHOT Show.

Obviously, I didn't see it all. But being the ammunition kind of guy, I found some interesting new loads. The good news is there's something here for everyone. The bad news: With ammo being as hard to come by as it's been, I'm not sure when you'll see this stuff on dealer shelves.

In a pre-SHOT Show online poll, NAHC members indicated a thirst for coverage of new hunting knives and other unique hunting accessories ... even more so than guns and ammunition. I met with Justin Bock from Buck Knives to learn more about their new fixed-blade Micarta Harvest Series of knives and I was impressed. Check it out.

One of the most rewarding parts of attending any trade show is meeting down-to-earth folks who run honest small businesses and create innovative, useful products. At SHOT Show this year, I had the chance to meet Tom and Jerry Black, two salt-of-the-earth brothers from Montana. They invented the WingOne handheld clay target thrower, and you need to check it out.

As a hunter, you generally have a working knowledge of game laws, seasons and bag limits. Most rules are clearly spelled out, but gray areas always exist and are typically governed by an unwritten code of ethics or personal morals. Next time you’re faced with a “what would you do?” situation, consider how your actions could be viewed by others, and realize you'll need to live with your decisions regarding the sacred hunt.

A savvy Wyoming Game and Fish warden tracked down two accused poachers of trophy-sized non-typical mule deer bucks by tracing the origin of litter left at the scene of a pair of wildlife crimes.

Other than an errant evening I spent with a mechanical bull, I’ve spent most of my time at SHOT Show searching for new predator and varmint hunting products. Hopefully you read my blog post featuring some gear highlights from the first few days of this chaotic event. Here are a five more items that caught my eye.

It’s January and I’m not predator hunting, so that means I’m at the SHOT Show. The unofficial start of SHOT is Media Day at the Range. It turned out to be the coldest day I’ve ever experienced in Vegas, so we had to keep warm by heating up gun barrels. I think we succeeded because my hands never got cold.

Now the doors are open at the Sands Expo Center and the show floor is booming with activity. My mission this year is to find exciting new predator hunting products and share my discoveries with you. Let's get to it.
