Adventure bowhunting is all about traveling to a place you've never been and hunting animals you've never hunted.

I love bowhunting in Africa. I've traveled to the Dark Continent more than 20 times on safari, and each time I feel like a kid in a candy store. Africa is pure adventure. My adventures have taken me to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Zambia and now Mozambique.

Earlier this month I shared the success story from my Mozambique leopard hunt. There's a lot that goes into this hunt, so I thought I'd share some more details with you.

We've been running baits for 10 days and finally had a hit. The scouting cameras show that the leopard stays for only 30 minutes, but eats quite a bit of the bait. We re-bait the set and put up the blind. There's a large rock 30 yards from the bait tree and we use it to help hide the blind. After setting the blind, PH Zak Grobler and I climb in.

As I write this I’m preparing for—to put it mildly—an ambitious trip to the Yukon. When I board the first plane of my northbound expedition I’ll have four tags in my pocket, which will give me the option to arrow a grizzly bear, moose, mountain caribou and Stone's sheep. Although it’s partially my fault that I’m loaded so heavily with tags for such premier big game species, I have to blame it on my good buddy and guide, Chad Lenz.

Bowhunting is a game of yards. We are obsessed with knowing shot distance because misjudging an animal by even 5 yards can spell disaster. It’s easy enough to know distance when you’ve got a laser rangefinder handy, but what about all of the shot opportunities that simply don’t afford you the chance to pop a quick reading with your rangefinder?

Spring for many hunters is turkey season. But have you ever thought about a spring trip to Africa? Before you shake your head "no," hear me out.
