Video Interview: USFWS Director Talks Hunting (SHOT Show)

By: Josh Dahlke

Feb 04

While most of my time at the 2013 SHOT Show was focused on getting the lowdown about new hunting gear, I also had the unique opportunity to sit down with Dan Ashe, director of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. If you're like me, the "g" word (government) elicits a feeling of instant skepticism—especially when dealing with anyone who holds a government title in front of their name.

Despite his high-ranking position in an office that greatly affects my core lifestyle, Dan came across as a genuinely down-to-earth guy, which helped to lower my hackles as soon as we shook hands and began chatting. Most encouraging, however, is that he's a dedicated hunter.

Watch this video interview to hear what Dan has to say about how the USFWS serves the hunting community.

This guy makes all the right noises about being "one of us". Having grown up in the 60s, I also have a healthy skepticism when it comes to anyone from the government, especially at the federal level. Vigilance and activism are the best ways to watch our for our own best interests.
