BowMag Arrowhead: Bullet Tip For Bowhunters (ATA 2013)

By: Melissa Bachman

Jan 08

I'm at the Archery Trade Association (ATA) Show digging deep on the show floor to find some of the coolest new bowhunting products for 2013. Watch the video below to see the amazing innovation from Rac-Em-Bac.

Straight from the folks at Rac-Em-Bac: "The BowMag arrowhead combines stealth delivery of an arrow with the power of a .38 or .357 Magnum bullet, effectively turning your compound bow or crossbow into an even deadlier silent hunting tool."

Those will probably be made illegal for bow hunting applications with the possible exception of feral hogs. Just saying.

I really don't see the point of this? A broad head much like a bullet will have the same effect based on the placement of the shot. Although this is a cool Rambo feature, it seems impractical.

With all this news on TV about disarming, our right to bear arm. this product would be taking the hunt out of traditional bow hunting. Wouldn't hurt to carry some in the hunting pack. You never know when you'll be sleeping deep in BIG CAT country. Especially hunting on horse back. A broad head would only piss Him Her Off. Loaded with A little bang would Get the Beast's A good pouch. Cant wait to try them yottie hunting. with the cross bow.....

no disrespect to you Andrew but this is practical. If you watched the video you saw it work on one of the hardest to kill animals in North America and therefore practical. and this is something that we may need in the near future.

Of course it's already not legal in California. Fish and Game Code Section 354(d): No arrows or crossbow bolt with an explosive head or with any substance which would tranquilize or poison any animal may be used. No arrows or crossbow bolt without flu-flu fletching may be used for the take of pheasants and migratory game birds, except for provisions of section 507(a)(2).

I suspect they would have to be registered as handguns in Michigan and would need a background check by a FFL.

Pretty cool stuff, especially for feral hogs. I don't like to idea of dumping all the shot into a bird, though. I suspect there will be some changes to NM state game and fish regs due tot his product. The rules state that arrows cannot be driven by explosive. There's nothing AFAIK concerning the arrowheads themselves.

Dumb idea. If you need a bullet, use a pistol.

With only a chamber (no barrel), I suspect that most of the powder burns outside and there is little or no difference between a .38 special and a .357 mag.

Disappointed that you would endorse such a gimmick.

Very bad idea for bowhunting and the archery industry as a whole. If you must use GUNpowder, use a GUN. I suspect a crossbow was named a crossbow because at the time their were no guns only flintlocks; ie bowlocks or should we rename to bowGUN or crossGUN.
