NRA Stands Firm Against Gun Control, Mass Media Aghast!

By: J.R. Absher

Dec 26

Following last week’s press conference (see video below) by National Rifle Association Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre, speaking on the horrific crime that recently took place in Newtown, Connecticut, many mainstream press reporters and commentators appeared genuinely confounded when he didn't embrace the passage of strict gun-control measures and a reinstatement of the 1990s ban on the manufacture and sale of certain firearms and gun components.

We can’t help but wonder: What in blazes did they expect from the head of the nation’s premier organization defending the rights granted under the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution?

Instead, the press pretty much unanimously lambasted LaPierre and the NRA for suggesting that armed security guards should be placed in every American school as part of the NRA's newly proposed National School Shield program

“The only way to stop a monster from killing our kids is to be personally involved and invested in a plan of absolute protection,” LaPierre said. “The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Would you rather have your 911 call bring a good guy with a gun from a mile away ... or a minute away?”

Whether or not the NRA chief’s suggestion is viable or could ever be implemented, it served as the organization’s official “line in the sand” as the debate over gun control and calls for restrictive laws inundate news headlines.

It was only hours after the horrendous murders when President Barack Obama voiced his support for a renewed ban on so-called “assault weapons,” a term purposely meant to be disingenuous and misleading.

Obama has appointed Vice President Joe Biden (who incidentally was the author and lead sponsor of the 1994 “assault weapons ban”) to head a task force to formalize his proposals for gun-control legislation by no later than January.

Even before the tragedy in Connecticut, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-California) announced she would introduce legislation that “would ban pistol grips and ‘high‑capacity’ magazines” for semi-automatic rifles.

And New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) went so far as to say, “Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option …”

So, sportsmen, women and firearms lovers: Buckle your seatbelts, hang on to your hats and get ready for a wild ride in the months to come. Prepare to cringe over the rhetoric, misinformation and downright lies you’ll be exposed to by the gun-grabbing constituents and their supportive media.

The gauntlet has been thrown down.

I my self think people need to wake up and quit blaming a gun and face the fact's , and that would be that a gun is nothing more than a tool. violence has been here since the beginning of time and it will be here till the end of time . We will not get it under control until we address mental illness. We need to recognize violence at a young age , and get control of it . Until we do we will not stop it . Start looking at the mind that is attached to the hand that hold's the gun . A gun is nothing more than a tool . If some body stabbed someone with a pen or pencil would you ban pen's and pencil's NO you would not and don't even think that people will fall for a yes on that one . Wake up and get on the right track and back the F*#K off the pro gun people . THIS IS AMERICA do what is right or GET THE F*#K OUT. You keep going like this and you anti gun grabbing prick's are going to cause a WAR in your own country . My ancestor's did not die in vane , DID YOUR'S . LONG LIVE FREEDOM . DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR . SEMPER FI. HORAH .

These gun grab gouls have been waiting for the excuse to get the camel's nose under the tent. Get ready for a full bore lefty propaganda blast. Meanwhile all of these politicians and media elites (including David Gregory, who racked LaPierre on Meet the Press) send their own kids to schools with armed security guards.

tdavis40 what a comment. I don't think I could have said the same thing in such a short and well formed statement.
Any and all restriction on firearms is illegal because restricting the rights of citizens to own and carry a weapon is an infringement on the peoples right to keep and bare arms as per the Second amendment of the Constitution of the United States of America which states "The right of the state to maintain a militia, the right of the people to keep and bare arms shall not be infringed.

To all of those,EVEN HERE that defended our Dictator-in Chief's stand on gun-ownership the last 4 years, I can only say... Oh, never mind..it's pointless. We are under attack. We are being labeled as paranoid, fear mongers, radicals, nuts, and many other labels that those that THINK they are the "New Voice" of America and the "New Majority" like to attach to ANYONE that doesn't see life through THEIR rosy-colored utopian eyes. We must be vigilant and vocal on the issue of gun ownership now more than ever. And I couldn't agree more with TDavis40..We, as a society are now seeing the by-product of permissive, lackadaisical morals, values and principles that have permeated our society since just after the outbursts of the 1960's. We have allowed our youth to sit on their collective asses in front of America's babysitter, the T.V., for two generations watching the violent, hate and revenge ridden garbage of Hollyweird and their buddies, the video game producers of madness and mayhem and we now have those mixed up, desensitized, young people with minds reeling from the innundation entering mainstream society. We have an epidemic of monstrous proportions of ill-adjusted people and borderline mental dysfunction melding into the general population, lacking the basic principles of decency,self-control,maturity, and productiveness that are essential to an orderly society. Can it be reversed?? It would be a monumental effort but we can start at home..remembering that we are also facing opposition from the very people that have our children for a great part of EVERY weekday...Teachers and College "professors". They are some of the worst indoctrinators. It's a mess to say the least but I can say with absolute certainty that gun-restriction legislation is the band-aid,knee-jerk, reactionary response of those that have their Asses high in the air...because they have their Heads in the sand.

I am a law abiding citizen of this country,I am a gun shop owner with a customer base of primarily police and corrections officers who hunt, shoot and train non stop.I am an officer myself and know first hand the mindset of a criminal."ASSAULT" is a behavior...NOT A TOOL!The rifle DID NOT cause these horrific acts of violence.A PERSON DID!Wayne LaPierre is correct about 1st response. If confronted with an armed gunman, you ARE confronted with a deadly threat. You now have only two choices.DEADLY RESPONSE OR DIE!I don't want guns in schools any more than you do but WAKE UP AMERICA!Schools are"soft"targets for these cowards, the path of least resistance. The longer you take to get your head out of the sand or wherever for that matter.Keep our children safe from harm and DO IT NOW!

In response to #RAbear51. I am a college professor and neither myself nor my colleagues "indoctrinate" our students. We believe that the key to our and our childrens future is education. The ability to think is a great tool, one which has been supplanted by instant gratification. I spend a great deal of time weaning students off the internet and mainstream media (I don't allow them as sources in reports). Your comment stereotypes professors just like the media stereotypes firearm owners. Please keep in mind that not all professors are anti-gun, many of the ones that I know (at my college and others) do own firearms for personnel protection, hunting, target shooting, etc. Yes there are a few outspoken professors that attack the second amendment. But they are in the minority and the reason they have the soap box to stand on is because the media seeks out those that support their views. I, like you, believe that the right to own firearms is absolute and will do whatever I can to keep that right; as will many other college professors.

# tdavis40... Ditto! # RAbear51, didn't we attempt to alert our naive fellow hunters during the election debate? As I said at the time, if you haven't been able to read the tea leaves by now, there is no hope for you. However, there is still hope for our country. We need to speak up, and LOUD! To Professor Blackwell I can say, point well taken. Not all educators are left-wing propagandists. But you must admit that there are an awfully lot of them out there. Unfortunately, in my opinion, the right has not been agressively pursuing the career areas that have clearly been infiltrated and perverted by the left (academics, media, judicial, political). As for their efforts to seize this moment, look no further than the recently-released celebrity-ridden PSA, "Demand A Plan To End Gun Violence".

It actually turns out that less than 3% of shootings are caused by any type of rifle and how is the law going to stop someone from obtaining a firearm from the black market especially when the ATF lost hundreds of guns in 2010. http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/nation/atf-fast-furious-sg,0,3828090.storygallery

I have to tell you all that my heart was broken in a way that I have never had it broken before when I heard the news about Sandy Hook. I was at work when it happened and though I can't tell you what kind of work I do because making the kind of comments I make could lead to me not having a job. I will tell you this. I allot of the people I baby sit for 12 hours a day where also brought to tears. However at the end of the day there is still only one thing to do to keep a tragedy like this from ever happening again. Arm the educators. Doing so is the only answer that will work. I was a little more forth coming about my emotions in a comment that I left on the previous blog concerning the NRA before this one. I cant tell you how upset I have been over this or of the prayers and how I have asked God why he would allow something like this to happen and I still don't know the answer to that. All I know is that We The People have to do something collectively and that is Demand that our educators and school staff be provided with a means to protect our children. As a parent and a grandparent I have to tell you that I no longer feel safe sending my Grandchildren to a public school. If it were possible I would say lets make education something that takes place in the home so we can all keep our children safe. But you know that is not possible for most of us. The only other option is to arm the educators, and train them to use the weapons effectively and make it mandatory Nation wide that this take place. Arming the educators should be the next legislation to come from our government but first we The People have to demand that they do it.

This is all so true there is no place safe and the schools are "soft" targets. but if taking away our only true form of protection is the answer our goverment that was elected to office needs to go! If a criminal really wants to cause bodily harm there are other options. Like going bigger "bombs." They take more time and planning but are possible! Protect our schools! When I was in hih school they put an officer there to cut down on the fights in the school. Which I has! And they still have an officer there. Also why do they put metal detectors in a front of the school with the armed officer. It would deture the criminal and any violent acts which he/she may commit. Our country Was built on owning firearms for protection and for hunting. If people want to say they are a true american they would know what our country was built on.or thy need to take a history lesson!

I believe the disappearance of the american family to be the root cause of the tragic shootings taking place around our country.
The removal of God from our public consiousness, the government endorsement of homosexuality, the movement of our entire society away from human interaction and ever increasing reliance on technology, diagnosing our children with numerous disorders that excuse bad parenting, and instilling society with a victim mentality, etc. are only symptoms of this disease.

God bless Wayne LaPierre and the NRA for taking a public stand against these unconstitutional attempts to leave our citizens defenseless.

The right of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT BE INFRINGED. period.

I hear all of your arguments and agree with most of them 100%. The loss of the family as the basic unit for teaching our society right from wrong, the banning of the prayer and god from schools and public life. The influence of media mind washing, etc…….
However here are a few of my own thoughts. We freely post our pro-gun thoughts on hunting and gun forums, to people that think mostly like we do. So how do we tell the trues to others? To non-gun owners, law obiding citizens that do not exercise their 2nd constitutional given right. The media states that there are over 200 million guns in the US, 90 million gun owners and barley 4.5 million NAR members. So how do we expect to win this fight? By going to participate every 2 or 4 years in elections? By telling same minded sportsman, hunter, sport shooters, gun collectors, etc… how we fell. I don’t think this will help us win the battle and right to keep our guns. Ask yourself what have you done to spread the message that “the gun is a tool”? I know we are too busy in our lives, meaning we do the things we prioritize as important and leave the other once by the way side. We set our own agenda. When have you stood up and talked to a none gun owner or even an anti-gun person about your right and feelings? Have you done it one time or never? Have you written an article to the local paper? You don’t have to write about the gun, you can write about the sport, hunting, etc… Initiat an open day at the local rifle range, etc….
My point is don’t preach to the choir go out and preach to the “sheep” the millions of people that sit on the fence and can be so easily moved by the few in the media and politics. Next, take $25 a year and joint the NAR, make it a 90 million person organization, so the rest of the country sees our strength that would scare the politicians out of their safe seats and votes. Yes I’m a Life NRA member, as well Life NAHC, Life NWTF, the local Rod and gun club and it does cost money. I do ask you what is the cost? $25 or even $50 per year if we lose our right? It is the cost of a box of amo or a case of beer. Trust me I don’t have money lying around, but I put it where my mouth is. Just some food for thought.

Shall not be infringed. What does that mean? Judges and law makers may try to tell you that banning a particular kind of weapon or ammunition is not a infringement on your second amendment rights to keep and bare arms. So why don't we look at what it means to infringe.
the definition of the word Infringe: to break; breakdown; frustrate; weaken; undermine; defeat;to trespass; to violate; Impose; to curb; to wreck; to ruin; oppose; thwart; play(off); foul up; to restrain.

now that I have laid it out for you, look back to all the gun control laws: the ones they have passed and tried to pass and then tell me weather or not your rights have been infringed. Did you know that because the words shall not be infringed are applied to the second amendment that it is not subject to any treaty signed by anyone in any political office or rank with any other government or group governments. A treaty signed between our government and another government can affect or overrule anything else provided for us in the Constitution except to right to bare arms which is our gaurantee that our rights can be reclaimed.

Do you know that is what the your government is wanting to do right now. They are trying to countermand your second amendment right to keep and bare arms.

Yes they are trying to take your weapons from you and your ammo. not just Semi-automatic weapon and silly little things like pistol grips and large capacity magazines. They want all of your fire arms. Its time to batten down the hatches and get ready for a rough ride. This monster is inevitable and is drawing nigh. Be prepared.
