Illinois Governor’s Attempted Gun Grab Derailed

The Illinois House of Representatives has followed the lead of the state Senate to decisively override Gov. Pat Quinn’s attempt ban certain types of firearms through the use of an “amendatory veto.”

The Illinois House voted 78-28 last week to derail what was largely viewed as the Governor’s backdoor attempt to implement constraints on the sale of certain semi-automatic rifles in the state. On Nov. 28, the Senate, led by Senate Bill 681 sponsor Sen. Dave Luechtefeld (R-Okawville), soundly rejected Quinn’s attempt by a 46-4 margin.

In August, the democratic incumbent governor flexed his amendatory veto power, effectively rewriting Luechtefeld ‘s bill that permits residents to purchase mail-order ammunition from in-state vendors. The governor’s added language prohibited the manufacture, possession, delivery or sale of commonly owned semi-automatic firearms used for hunting, recreational shooting and personal protection.

Quinn’s proposal specifically would have banned the AK-47, AR-15 and TEC-9 and created a de facto statewide registration scheme for currently owned firearms and magazines.

By rejecting Quinn’s attempt to implement a firearms ban, Senate Bill 681 now will allow Illinois residents to purchase ammunition from businesses within or outside Illinois by mail or private shipment. The purchaser of ammunition will be required to provide the seller with a copy of his or her valid Firearm Owner’s Identification (FOID) Card and either a valid driver’s license or state identification card.

In the past, Illinois residents could only have ammunition shipped if it was purchased from out-of-state suppliers, effectively denying revenue to in-state vendors and retailers.

“Today is a good day for the Second Amendment in Illinois. We have scored a victory against
short-sighted Chicago anti-gun policies,” Sen. Luechtefeld said. “The Governor overstepped his reach when he decided to rewrite this Senate bill and impose an assault weapons ban without the measure first being heard by the legislature.”

The new law will take effect July 1, 2013.

The gun grabbers will try anything to push their anti-second amendment agenda, no matter how underhanded. Vigilance is a must and activism is the answer to the threat.

I wish the media would stop calling guns "weapons", and "assault rifles" are already banned. He is just trying to get some semi auto varmint rifles banned.

After the horrible tragedy Friday, the gouls on the Left are rubbing their hands and licking their lips. They will start by pushing "reasonable" restrictions on certain weapons and magazines. Of course, when the next tragedy occurs, and sadly it will, they will be there to push the next bill, and the next. They are only treating the symptoms, not the disease, but they really don't care about the disease, just power.

all those that think gun bans would have prevented ANY of the latest incidents...Raise your hand: All those that think America needs to wake up and address the REAL societal ills that bring about such unempathetic feelings and actions by our youth..Raise your hand: all those that can define an "Assault Weapon"...raise your hand:All those surprized that the inevitable attempt at disarming Americans has begun and will accelerate..raise your hand. To those that EVEN on THIS forum defended this tyrant ,fraudulent,"president" concerning his intent toward gun-owning citizens..I say, How's that bitter little pill taste now? Has anyone taken notice of the average age of the perpetrators of these tragedies?? early twenties...hardly mature,responsible,well-adjusted,experienced and safety-minded "gun-owning Americans. There is a deep-rooted problem in America and it has NOTHING to do with owning guns, of any size, type,or capacity..NOTHING

Ask a liberal a question: Do you want to take guns away from the people, or do you want to stop crazy nuts from killing innocent citizens? These goals are not the same as shown by the facts that concealed carry saves lives.

The only thing that I ever say to those who are supporters of gun control, regardless of the method (weapons ban, ammo tax, registration and purchasing limits) is, “You are assuming this will work because you are assuming that criminals and deranged people obey laws.”
They don’t and that is why the only thing that gun control does is leave the innocent defenseless. I don’t care what politicians may say, God gave me the right to defend myself and those around me. If more people understood that, more people would love the second amendment.

To quote Uncle Ted, "To those who would disarm me, leave me defenseless, and make me a victim, I say KISS MY ASS!".

Ladies and Gentlemen, This is only the beginning of a long and hard road with holes in it and rocks all over it. This is the start of an oppressive governments trammel by which we are entangled. For to long we have been coy in the wake of the cozening of coxcombs while those around us have succumb to anesthesia administered by those who also anguish us.

Those who have now taken oath to uphold and protect our beloved constitution and still animadvert its legality with the hope to annul and trample it.

Those vile and animus coxcombs whom have been elected by this cozened majority to defend the very document they so despise and would love nothing more than to render it void do so look forward to the day they can tread upon that document filled so long ago with wisdom annotated by our forefathers who themselves fended off tyrants through the very means provided for us in the second amendment thereof.

The aforementioned coxcombs animism of fire arms is pusillanimous.

Yet we remain in atrophy, for we the people fail to animate our rights. Especially our right to keep and bare arms. without which we have no means by which to defend any and all of our other rights and so they shall soon be annihilated. Then, we the people shall all be slaves.

WAKE UP AMERICA.
