The North American Hunter team is proud to say that one of our own took advantage of this crazy chase-phase rut action and scored big on Sunday morning. NAH Product Test Editor Tony Stokes—the guy who works feverishly to get Field Test gear for NAHC members—was hunting at his family's 40-acre property in southern Minnesota when a behemoth buck showed up. Here's the story from Tony ...
NAH Product Test Editor Tony Stokes: "The rut is on, and now is the time to get in your treestand! I hit the road last Wednesday with a good buddy of mine, Jim Lausten, and we had quite the adventure. A lightning and hail storm ripped through our hunting area when we arrived, bringing with it a cold front. The rain continued through Thursday, so we waited it out at the cabin. We hunted Friday and Saturday, and were planning to leave Sunday morning, but decided to hunt for a few hours because the woods were alive with activity.
"Sunday was a cold, crisp morning. This giant 10-pointer came in behind me with its head down searching for does. I knew he was a beast, so I jumped on my window of opportunity at 25 yards using the Rage 2-inch 2-Blade expandable broadhead. Jim and I were following the thick blood trail together when he yelled out, 'There he is!' The buck had dropped within 60 yards of where I shot him. As we walked closer, my eyes lit up. 'What a deer!' I think the amazing venison roast we cooked the night before brought with it some good luck."
