It's not often that a hunting editor gets invited to a motorcycle shop, but that's exactly what happened to me recently. And it wasn't just some back-alley chopper shop—it was none other than Orange County Choppers, made famous by the Discovery Channel's popular American Chopper TV series.
What was the invite all about? For starters, the brand-new Barnett Vengeance reverse-limb crossbow saw its debut at OCC. The new bow launched with quite the bang, as Matt Busbice from Wildgame Innovations fired it at a balloon filled with an explosive gas inside the OCC shop ... in front of an extremely expensive machine. Luckily, the Vengeance's accuracy proved to be worth at least $100,000.
Believe it or not, OCC was a rightful location to unveil the Vengeance, because many of the OCC employees are hunters and friends of the Wildgame folks. In fact, they're known for shooting bows in and outside of the shop regularly. But, fittingly, the main highlight of the event actually had something to do with a chopper.
That's the bike pictured above, built to unique specs as desired by Wildgame Innovations. You really have to see it to believe it, but you'll have to wait until the two-part series airs on the Discover Channel starting September 24 and October 1, 2012. The hodgepodge of custom features incorporates elements of several outdoor-industry brands, including Wildgame Innovations, Barnett Crossbows, Flextone Game Calls, Easton Technical Products, New Archery Products and Realtree.
I was able to get some exclusive footage inside OCC and an exclusive look at the Wildgame chopper, and I'll share it all when I can. Stay tuned for more details right here in my "Mixed Bag" blog—it's eye candy that's oh so sweet.
