Husbands—which is more memorable: shooting your biggest buck, or the time you dropped down on one knee to propose to your wife?
Even though my better-half reads this blog, my honest answer is “deer,” not “dear.” And I know her answer is the same as mine (yes, I’m one of the lucky guys with a diehard deer hunting wife). I thought my marriage proposal was both clever and unique, but because I failed to record it, memories of that moment (2/14/2000) have faded with time.
Not so for fellow deer hunters Adam and Kayla. Check out their video below from the big Opening Weekend Sunday Potluck at the Dog Pen in front of the entire Jack Mountain Hunting Club in Bismarck, Arkansas. Adam takes a knee in the mud without a second thought, and Kayla is obviously surprised—and happy.
I love Kayla’s blaze-orange Mossy Oak cap and camo knee-high rubber boots, and the background song chosen to accompany the video (Joe Nichols’ “Gimmie That Girl”) is one of my favorites.
And last but certainly not least, I can’t help but admire any group of hunters who bow their heads to say grace before a meal and ask God for a safe deer hunting season. Amen.
Until next time ...
