Gordy,
The Turkey Skinz seems like the way to go... I've been using Flocked heads on my mallard drake decoys for a couple of years now and feel those make all the difference in helping to get ducks to comitt. I can only imagine the Turkey Skinz would do the same to get those big Tom's to come right in too... Looks interesting. Let me know if you'd like me to try it out or try it on! Gobble-Gobble!

Poor man’s version… Perfect!! I think I fall into that category. I have been a deer and elk hunter all my life but lately I have been really interested in getting into turkey hunting. We have three of the four sub-species of turkeys in Washington (Merriam’s, Eastern’s & Rio’s). We also have an early (spring) and late (fall) season for hunting them.
I don’t have any turkey hunting gear so I have a lot to acquire and a small budget to do it on. These look like just the item for me. They just opened a Cabela’s in my town so I will have to go check these out. Thanks for the tip.

I am fifteen and live in conneticut and we hunt turkeys every saturday during spring, this year i almost called in my first turkey i mean i have shot turkeys before but i have never called one in myself and we use decoys and that skin looks like it would work great instead of bying a one hundred dollar decoy i might order one of these for fall.

I will be getting one of theses before next season. I took my 3 year old hunting this year and I think that if I would have had a decoy out I could have keep her attention for more than an hour.

After killing and mounting my first turkey ever this spring, my dogs proceeded to eat the tail, beard, and feet (w/ spurs attached) while I was away on business. A turkey skins sure would help me be more successful next year in replacing my "1st" turkey mount.

Looks like it would work pretty good, starting to see more wild tukeys in north western minnesota....

you think if i put that over my girlfriends rat dog the turkey might come in expecting something totally different?

i have been trying to kill a turkey for 7 years now and still cant where
i am there are plenty of turkeys and ive been trying decoys for the past 2 years with no luck but i might buy one of these for the fall turkey season hopefully it will work because the decoys i am using
now just arent working and calls dont seem to work either.

This year was my first spring turkey hunting experience. I wasn't lucky enough to bag one of these magnificent birds. But it was one of the most exciting experiences off my life. Kept bringing in a big tom within 80 yards, but he wouldn't come any closer. It was one of the most beautiful and exciting sites I have ever encountered while hunting. Can't wait until next spring. Good luck to all turkey hunters next season.

Perhaps they should make a cover people can wear to make them more good looking too! :-) Cool Product but I wonder how well does it stay on when a big Tom is knocking it around?

Looks really cool and just maybe it would fool some of these seasoned birds here in Missouri who want to hang up at about 50 yards. I'd like one, it might give Scarlet the Harlot or Susie the Floozy a little more sex appeal.

While Turkey Skinz really help improve your decoy spread, I offer a cheaper alternative. A hunting buddy of mine has been making his own for years now and to be frank, it works! After bagging your next turkey, skin out the bird. Once you have the bird dressed out, take the skin and tack it to some cardboard with the fleshy side out. Use Borax and apply it to the flesh. Let it sit until the hide has been cured. You have just made your own Turkey Skinz. Of course, if you don't feel like doing all the work, just buy one. Either way, it will give life to your decoys!

This looks like it might help us out. A lot of my turkey hunting is in a public WMA and I have literally seen toms sit down in a field or completely turn and go the other way after seeing a standard decoy. We have stopped even carrying decoys with us. But, this might give our decoys new life and those call shy public birds may never know what hit them.

I have been turkey hunting for the last 6 years and have not got one yet. I have the poor mans decoy's. I've seen these skins and wondered if they might help. I had been hunting public land but this year I hunted a private place and got a shot at one but missed. I bought a haint gobble call from Down n Dirty and was amazed at the action i got with this call. Now maybe a turkey skin will be the ticket. I seen them at the Columbus Ohio Deer & Turkey Expo. It would be great to see North American Hunting Club there next year. How about it.

Thanks all for your thoughful comments. We're going to try to post a new blog every Wednesday. Stay tuned!

johnnyatkins16: I hunt a lot of public ground, too, and have had the same issues with standard decoys. I think the more realism the better, and that's why stuffers and other life-like options, such as the Turkey Skinz, have gained popularity.

MTOOLE: Sometimes a decoy is just the ticket to "break down" that hung-up tom. Give it a try!

Turkey hunting is my 2nd favorite (behind deer) and for a guy on a budget, well let's just say that the turkeys look at the decoy and say 'I'm insulted, I'll just peck this one to pieces'. A realistic cover like that would be really helpful and for a change, the turkey might say 'Hey baby, where have you been all my life' lol Thanks, Gordy.

Turkey Skins is an amazing product. It turns your old plastic decoy into a lifelike bird. Best of all, it is priced far more reasonable then having one from your Taxidermist.

THE TURKEY SKINZ WAS A SMART INVENTION. I'M A BIG BOW HUNTER AND THIS PAST FALL I KILLED MY FIRST TURKEY WITH A BOW. I HAVE KILLED OTHER TURKEYS BEFORE BUT NEVER WITH A BOW. I WAS ACTUALLY IN THE WOODS BY MYSELF DEER HUNTING. IT WAS REALLY COOL HOW THE HUNTING EVENT HAPPENED I SAW SEVERAL DEER BUT NONE OF THEM WOULD COME IN FRONT OF THE BLIND WHERE I COULD GET A CLEAR SHOT, BUT THE TURKEYS WERE BRAVE ENOUGH TO DO WHAT THE DEER WOULDN'T DO. I THOUGHT TO MYSELF OTHER THAN AN ARROW WHAT HAVE I GOT TO LOOSE. WHAT WAS REALLY NEAT ABOUT THE WHOLE SITUATION WAS WE HAD A CAMERA SET UP RIGHT WHERE I SHOT THE TURKEY AND IT ACTUALLY SHOT A PICTURE OF THE ARROW AS IT WAS GOING IN THE TURKEY. JUST WANTED TO SHARE MY MOMENT OF PRIDE. I WILL BE USING THE TURKEY SKINZ THIS FALL AND SHARE MY SUCCESS WITH MY OTHER FRIENDS THAT ENJOY TURKEY HUNTING!!

I'm a life-long big game hunter, but lately I've become interested in turkeys. I've heard them referred to as hunting feathered elk and that really appeals to me. I don't have any turkey hunting gear so this realistic decoy looks like it might be worth in investing in.

I was fortunate to harvest my first gobbler this year! I think I could have got another BIG one if I had a decoy with the Turkey Skinz on it. He came in looking, but didn't see what he was looking for, so he skedaddled! I'll wait and see if I win this before I buy one..

I have used the turkey skinz and they are a great affordable way to add realism to any decoy without putting the hurt to your wallet and adding little to no weight to your gear you carry out to the filed. This is something every turkey hunter should add to their arsenal of gear.

This seems like a great product, one of which i hope to add to my decoy section! Realism is always the key to drawing in that bird with-in a few yards of your blind and turkey skinz i think is the way to go! Can't wait to try one next spring or this fall!

all turkey hunters, especially my 15 year old son.I will be checking the Turkey Skinz out at a retailer soon.

Cool looking product. Exactly what i need to put new life into my old decoys. Seems the last few years the birds just walk by the one I use without paying much attention to them. Thanks for the chance to maybe win one

Couple of good tips there Gordy. I like the idea of getting the realism without the bulk of carrying a "stuffer" around. And you're right about probably being able to get some discounts this time of year. Besides, it gives me another good excuse for a Cabela's run. Thanks.

An old hunting buddy of mine, deceased, had something like a skinz, I always thought it made his decoy look real. I do not know where his went, but since you have an extra one, I know it will look good on my decoy

I'm a recently infected hunter. (infected with "get to the woods desease") So after trying deer hunting this winter I decided to try turkey hunting for the first time this spring. Even though I didn't get too close to taking a turkey, I didn't regret giving up my saturdays for it instead of my usual pursuit of bass and trout in the spring. I'd heard of these turkeys skinz and sitting off of a field looking at my blow up decoys shining in the sun I wasn't so sure if I got a tom close he'd be fooled by a glowing hen. But being a low budget hunter I'll be needing to get the best price I can to up my chances for next season. Thanks for the info!

As a fourteen year old i have been doing some turkey hunting with dekoys and they help a lot but i have been borrowin the dekoys and i do not have any of my own. I would love to have thees turkey skinzs because they would help reduce the price of my yearly turkey hunting stuff shoping list this up coming season because i dont have to buy any hundred dollar dekoys which is hard to do bc i only have a summer job haha.
