Video: Life-Saving Tips For Hot Hiking

I borrowed the “Africa-hot” line from the 1988 movie “Biloxi Blues,” but it seems to describe the spring weather we’ve been experiencing so far in 2012. I don’t care if you’re a Gore global-warming supporter or not, it’s been downright hot.

We did some hiking during the past weekend and I thought carrying 3 quarts of water would hold me and the dog all day. I was secretly hoping to find a mountain seep as well. The seep didn’t come to fruition, but dehydration was a close second. If you plan on being outdoors this spring and summer, take note of some of the tips in the video below—it may save you a sunburn or even your life.

If you don’t want to face the sun, then rent the Neil Simon movie “Biloxi Blues.” It stars Matthew Broderick and Christopher Walken, and doesn’t require carrying 3 or more quarts of water to enjoy.
