Video: Wisconsin Youth Turkey Hunt

By: Josh Dahlke

Apr 13

Thanks to youth-friendly regulations in Minnesota and Wisconsin, this is the third consecutive year I've helped guide my 13-year-old brother (and NAHC member) on a successful spring turkey hunt.

We enjoyed Wisconsin's youth turkey-hunting weekend again this spring. It's a special 2-day opportunity for youth to hunt before the regular season opens and birds get pushed around.

That boy don't know how good he's got it—this is the third time he's killed a tom shortly after flydown during the first morning of his hunt!

Watch the video below to see the action unfold as a hot gobbler closes in on the young hunter:

Will you bring a youngster turkey hunting this year?

Nice bird quick season though. I want to get the boy's out there hunting birds like that as a couple have on youth hunts no food on table but they saw them and had fun which is important, plus they learned a lot. Always so much better with family and young hunters.

Had a 14 year old out on my land Saturday, April 7th. too. 12:05 his tag was filed with a 20.5 pound, 8.5 inch beard, and 6/8" spurs. I enjoy the youth hunt as much if not more, then my hunters do.

I took my 13 year old on the Ky youth weekend, for the third year in a row he scored! My long time friend and I have more fun taking the kids hunting then when we go by ourselves. Every state should have a youth season of some type. The state of Kentucky has the best we have found, and lots of game, but most important, the youth tags are very reasonable, even for non-residents like us.

My 11-year old daughter is ready for her first turkey hunt. We had one booked to Nebraska last fall, but work made us cancel. I need to plan another hunt to get her out and get the bug at a young age. She has been with me a few times, but nothing like getting your first gobbler.
