During my recent Rio Grande turkey hunt with the National Wild Turkey Federation's (NWTF) Brent Lawrence, he handed me his iPad on the road to camp. "Check this out," he said. On the screen was the NWTF Turkey Hunting Toolbox—a feature-rich, addictive app for longbeard lovers.
I didn't get to spend much time playing around with the new app, but I had one problem with it—it's only available for iDevices (iPhones, iPads or iPod Touch), and I have an Android smartphone. But never fear: Brent assures me an Android version will be available within the next month.
There's no use for me to rattle-off all the features when you can click right here to get the lowdown directly from the NWTF. Or if you're interested, check out my friend and hardcore turkey hunter Steve Hickoff's take on the app in his OutdoorLife.com Strut Zone blog.
Oh, and while you're on the NWTF website, if you haven't already, you need to consider becoming an NWTF member. If you're a turkey hunter, you have no excuse to not join, but it's also totally worthwhile if you support wildlife conservation of any sort. I've been a member for years, and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made.
