Watch: 'My Take' with Melissa Bachman

By: Melissa Bachman

Feb 13

"My Take" is a new Web-video series that revolves around the world of hunting. I'll bring you fresh, relevant content 5 days per week, Monday through Friday. Here's how it works:

Monday: "Hot News of the Week," plus a preview of what will come the rest of the week.

Tuesday: "Tip Tuesday," where I’ll bring you a video tip straight from the field.

Wednesday: "Q&A Day," which means you get to ask me any question you want!

Thursday: "Product Review Day" at Cabela’s. I'll give you the lowdown on amazing new hunting products.

Friday: "T.G.I.H!" or "Thank God I’m Hunting!" Each and every Friday, I'll bring you another heart-pounding hunt from the field. If you’re lucky, I’ll share the week’s outtakes after the hunt; however, I’ll have to check with the editor … wait, that’s me! So I guess I’ll add those in, too, because there's no reason I should just sit back and laugh at myself—you might as well join in the fun.

In the first Hot News of the Week (below), I’ll reveal which celebrity decided to try wolf meat (and claimed to go back for seconds) for his new movie! Below that you'll find all the "My Take" videos from the first week of the series. Make sure to join me each and every day!

I saw "The Grey". Great film but the sound guys can't tell the difference between wolf and coyote calls. I thought it to be an accurate portrayal of the animal and it's behavior.
I've got a few questions for you,Melissa. I've heard about the 7mm-08, but want to know more. What is the longest range you would use this caliber? How large of game animal would you take with it? Would it be far too much gun for coyotes? Would you use it on dangerous game such as black bears? Please tell us more. Thank you!!

Wolf meat...hmmm. Does dog count? Anyone been to Vietnam? Not unusual to eat dog meat in Asia.

Would I eat wolf? Only if I absolutely had to. Same with cougar or Bobcat. I just can't get my mind around it.

I would definitely try wolf. I would have no problem with it if it tasted good. I have eaten bear and camel (which tastes just like beef but is as tough as a baseball glove) so why not try wolf.

Believe me jbelvl, mountain lion (cougar) is excellent.

Ya know, Cougar might be just tasty-fine, but for me, gimme the flank of an elk. I had a friend tell me he dined on the big cat and said it wasn't bad. I'll take his word for it. I just can't do it. Course, if I was really, really hungry...all bets are off. I might even eat a skunk. Ugh.

I actually have a 1989 NAHC Cookbook with 2 skunk recipes in. Broiled and roast. No, I have not tried either!

Cook it in tomato sauce. Everything tastes good in sauce, plus it tenderizes the meat.

DITTO to dmiller56. Your job beats working at Walmart. I'm the type that will try anything once. I've eaten dog meat when I was stationed in Korea and it was good so Im sure Wolf would be fine. Keep up the good work Melissa.

I agree with switchback8, i lived in the Philippines for 2 years, ate dog also and it's not bad, most people don't know the difference from beef if made in some type of dish. I would be okay with wolf, but I'm with Melissa, I'll stick to deer and elk.
