This morning at the SHOT (Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade) Show at the Sands Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, Nikon and the "North American Hunter-TV" team announced the winners in the Tell Us Your E-S-T Hunting Story contest.

Grand Prize Winner: Michael Olier of Abita Springs, Louisiana, with his story “Hunt-N-Da Swamp.” It seems Michael’s Nikon riflescope not only saved his life, but continues to perform flawlessly today. Michael won a Nikon hunting optics package, including a new Monarch 3 10X42 Binocular, Prostaff 5 Zoom 16-48X60 Fieldscope, Prostaff 550 Rangefinder, Prostaff 3-9X40 BDC Riflescope, Spot On portable software and a Nikon "Spot On" hooded sweatshirt.

Second Place Winner: Mitchell Sher of Jericho, New York, with his story “Time-Tested By Accident.” Mitchell’s Nikon binocular survived nearly a year in the woods after he forgot it in the excitement of hauling a buck out. Just how he recovered it and what happened after makes the story even more intriguing. Mitch won a new Monarch 3 10X42 Binocular, Prostaff 550 Rangefinder and Nikon "Spot On" hooded sweatshirt.

Third Place Winner: Robert K. McLamara of Steubenville, Ohio, with his story “Scari-EST Hunt: A Sinking Feeling.” He recounts an Alaskan bear hunt gone wrong from the start. Quicksand, a rising tide and a cell phone out of commission add up to true Extraordinary Situation Testing. For his tale of adventure, Robert won a new Monarch 2 10X42 Binocular and Nikon "Spot On" hooded sweatshirt.

Congrats to the winners! Enjoy your new Nikon gear.

(In case you’re a Rip Van Winkle wanna be and have been asleep for the last 6 months, E-S-T stands for Extraordinary Situation Testing, which "North American Hunter-TV" developed to help promote the launch of Nikon’s new Monarch 3 ATB binoculars. Congrats to all the winners especially Robert K. McLamara from Steubenville Ohio which is only about an hour from where i live in Ohio. The stories were great and actually Roberts was the one that kept me on the edge of my seat the most, cause i'm scared to death of drowning.

I get really angry every time I read an article or blog about the SHOT show, and the writer spells out what SHOT stands for. Any one who has ever read any hunting magazine knows what it means. You all must have a word minimum imposed by your editors.
