I don’t want you to think any less of our “North American Hunter-TV” team, but they’ve been involving me quite heavily these days with everything from filming hunts to filming archery tips. They’ve even gone so far as to call me the “talent.” Now, that’s either a general term used in the television production world, or my friends are more desperate to fill air space than I thought. Either way, putting me in front of a camera is proof that the American Dream is indeed attainable. Hey, if I’m attractive enough to be on TV, you should be able to kill multiple Boone & Crockett-caliber bucks this fall!
Now, having a TV camera over my shoulder while I’m hunting is one thing, but getting me to “act” is something completely different. And my whole family thought an English degree was as useful as nipples on a boar pig. Ha!
To have a first-hand look of Nikon’s new Monarch 3 binoculars, Bill Miller and I spent way too much time with our ingenious TV producers to put together a series of Extreme Situation Testing (E-S-T) scenarios to see just how good these binos actually are. Of course, given my new “talent” title, I’m convinced E-S-T is an acronym for “extremely sexy talent.” I think you’ll at least crack a smile with these videos because we had a wild time filming them. Let me put it like this: I spent so much time cussing at my superiors that we couldn’t use half the footage, and it’s a small miracle I still have a job.
So, you be the judge. Have a look at the first video of our six-part series right here. (Don't worry: It gets better.) Tell me that my definition of E-S-T is the correct one. And if you don’t agree, lie to me.
Oh, and by the way—I killed my first deer of the season and am currently prepping and packing for my Maine bear-with-hounds hunt. More on both of those later.
Enjoy a good laugh at my expense with the video, and remember to keep your nose to the wind.
