Hunting season is finally here. As you read this I'm in the field chasing pronghorns with my Mathews Z7 Xtreme. Although I hope to tag a buck, my first priority is to put my son within bow range of a Wyoming pronghorn. His hunting will be limited, as it is every season, due to my hectic travel schedule. Our August DIY bowhunt is a great opportunity for both of us to enjoy a hunt before his school year and my hunting craziness starts.
My career calls for me to hunt as much as humanly possible, but as I age, I don't mind playing second fiddle to my kids. Believe it or not, this past spring I didn't tag a gobbler. I spent numerous days in pursuit of gobblers, using every trick I could think of, but my kids were the ones armed with bows and shotguns.
Cole gets his first chance this week, and I'm trying to keep an October window open to help him tag a deer as well. Katelyn gets her chance in November during the Thanksgiving school break. We're headed to Montana, and she'll be looking to tag her first buck in the Powder River country with a TC Icon.
In the meantime, I'll get plenty of hunting in. But when I get a chance to hunt with the kids, they'll be the first priority.
Hunting season has arrived. Good luck!
