Win: Illinois Whitetail Hunt And ThermaCELLs

By: Bill Miller

Aug 04

Just yesterday morning I was out taping in my backyard with a couple of the “North American Hunter-TV” producers. We like to be “done” with most of our taping come the heat and heart of the summer here in Minnesota, but Can-Am just became a sponsor of our show, so we needed to get some running footage and tip segments with the new Outlander 650 XT.

I knew what to expect as we ventured onto the trails in the thick hardwoods across the road from my house. It’s been a wet summer here in the North Country, and there’s standing water everywhere—perfect for a bumper crop of mosquitoes.

The first thing I did when I walked out the garage door to get things ready at 6 a.m. was fire up a ThermaCELL and strap it to my belt. From then on, I went about my business without another thought concerning the bugs, even through the next 4 hours of prep and taping.

One of the producers showed up in short sleeves and short pants! I offered him spray, but he wasn’t too keen on that because he didn’t want to go back to the editing suite the rest of the day smelling of bug dope. So, I went back to the garage and grabbed one of the ThermaCELL lanterns my wife and I use when we are sitting around the fire pit in the backyard.

Not having much experience with ThermaCELLs, the producer wasn’t real positive about its effects—for about 5 minutes. From then on, I noticed him carrying that lantern everywhere he went for every shot setup we made. By the time we were done, he was another ThermaCELL believer.

If you’re interested in scoring a free ThermaCELL unit for yourself, or even better, an all-expenses-paid hunt during the rut at The Grigsby in Illinois, then read on.

Every day in August, one daily winner will receive a ThermaCELL appliance in Realtree APG, worth $31.99. The appliance is up to 98 percent effective for repelling mosquitoes, black flies and no-see-ums. Enter here

And the person who gets the most friends to enter the contest will score a $4,000 whitetail bowhunt—the kind of hunt dreams are made of—at The Grigsby in Tallula, Illinois. The Grigsby is a world-renowned whitetail outfitter; celebrities visit there quite often. Enter here if you want a crack at winning The Grigsby hunt.

At the end of August, all 31 daily winners will be entered in the grand-prize drawing for a prize package worth more than $400. The grand prize package consists of 10 ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent products of your choice, and 200 hours of refills.

Enter every day from August 1 through August 31, 2011. More entries mean more chances to win.

The North American Hunting Club has even decided to sweeten the pot: The two people who get the second and third most friends to enter the contest will each receive a lifetime membership to the Club.

You've got nothing to lose by entering now and participating in this contest, but you've got plenty to lose if you don't give it a shot!

Here in Maryland we hunt sika deer in the swamps on the eastern shore. The swamp in the early hunting season is full of misquitos the size of small birds and those peskyblack flies. I always used deet to keep them off, but they still buzzed around my stand and would breath in at least one or two during a morning hunt. That does not help you remain quiet in the stand. A couple of years ago my hunting buddy had bought a two pack of the ThermaCELLs and let me use one. I took the deet with me, but surely did not need it. All I do is light it off before climbing into the tree and by the time a get set, no flies, mot misquitos, not nothing bothering me. Has not impacted the game eather, the sika deer still walk under the stand just like before. I now own a couple myself because my wife stole the first one for camping and other outdoor activities for hereself.

i have had a thermacell 6 or so years. I NEVER go int the woods without it. Turkey season and fishing and early deer season. I'm from Ga and it even works on the knats. It is a must if you go in the woods. Thank you for making the thermacell i love it.

I hunted the backwoods in North Carolina, and i used the mesh nets on top of my camo clothing on my face/head, neck and i use gloves all year no matter what element of weather. I would love to have one of these Thermacells. Being a college student cant really afford more than what i have of hunting gear.

Living and hunting in the swamps of South Carolina's lowcountry, the Thermacell is mandatory, not optional! Thermacell is the single greatest invention of modern man!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used my thermo cell at the Beach this year. Worked absolutely great on back deck of condo. I also use when hunting wild boar in MS. Da-- mosquitos are as big as ducks in MS but it keeps them away
